I Can't Believe I Rooted My Droid

Rooting DROID

hi guys i was wondering where to start on ROOTING this beast, and i think i'm noob on the rooting , so i would appreciate of someone would make like STEP-by-STEP DROID rooting procedure, and post it here? please? and thank you.
Cuz i dont even know where to start

i rooted two nights ago. i don't know why i decided to do it. i didn't really care to much about overclocking. i guess i was bored and felt dangerous. i'm happy i did it, the phone runs much faster and smoother. i like the look of the BB rom and the extra things it lets you do.

go into your app drawer and see if there is an app called superuser permission. it'll be a ninja icon and will say superuser permission under it. if it's there then you are rooter.

Ok, I am running BB, but before I switched away from Sholes, I had an app that allowed me to wirelessly tether. Now it is gone. Is there any way to get it back?

In the market for 5.00 you can purchase scholes mod update, an app that will set it up for you. There are some things you need to look out for, but all in all it should work pretty well if you just take your time. And I can tell you because I screwed up that you won't root your droid just keep in mind that the start button is used for back up, volume toggles the memory (so does D pad) and camera button is your "enter" or "yes" key.

I thought I'd give a little "18 hours later" update since rooting.

Let's get the bad out of the way.

1. Had to do my first battery pull ever. Had a lock up and could not reset phone.

2. Battery temperature soared while charging reaching 118 degrees. Also because it was running that hot the battery only charged to 50%. I did a reset and everything settled down. Battery is now fully charged.

3. I think the battery may not be lasting as long, I'll know more about that later today.

Now the good.

1. Amazing speed, smoothness when browsing.

2. Love the smokeglass effect. It just looks so cool. That's hard to describe, but it makes like a "mirror image" in the background like when you are in your music and the album cover is displayed. Also does something similar in gallery too

3. Phone is definitely faster. What I mean is when someone hangs up it doesn't take a second or two to register, it hangs up right then.

I really was busy getting my apps back last night so I can't say too much more about it. I'm going to switch the overclock at night back to 550/225 to see if that doesn't help with the battery issue I had last night.

As the opportunity arrives I'll try and keep this thread updated with what I find I like and what I don't like. At this time I'm still in my testing phase so as to whether or not the phone will stay rooted, I don't know.

What was you battery temps before you overclocked?

Also, I had no issues with battery life before overclocking and afterwards. It might have actually gotten better.

Same here (never an issue). What settings are you using from withing SetCPU? Ware are you OC to?

Haven't really noticed much of a change with the battery life yet. My temperature has been fine with an OC of 800. The phone locked up on me once and it was this morning since using the sholesmod updater (since it was released). I was listening to Pandora in the car and the sound stopped, so I tried to unlock my phone to find out what the problem was and the screen was not responsive. I pulled the battery and it has been fine since. I've seen positive differences in performance though so far.

I like the sholesmod updater app because even though I was rooted before, I now find myself doing much more, and with much more ease.

I'm getting to close to rooting here, but I just had one quick question. I've done some research on making a backup of my phone in case I do want to unroot it in the event that I have to have Verizon service my phone. The guide I read on rootyourdroid.info though states that the phone must be rooted first before making a backup. I guess my question is, if I make a backup of my phone settings while my droid is rooted, does that mean I have no backup of the phone in its unrooted state? Is there a way or should I be making a backup of the phone in an unrooted state in case I do want to go back to full unrooted mode or does this not matter if the backup is made in root mode?

:woot:
Welcome to the club Hook. Now get Bugless Beast on that thing and stop screwing around:icon_ banana::icon_ devil:

You probably found it already but if not:

I recommend the update.zip method because it will keep all your settings and info. Working great for me (at 800Mhz).

Seriously, is there a way to use this app to install the BB rom? Because the only reason I was able to get my phone's rom installed was this app. I "rooted"before but had to return to stock because I ran into huge problems using DRH and terminal emulator.

I just got done doing this. Use the app, go thru all of the settings to set up sholes (which was very buggy and laggy for me). Then, using the site you posted, mount your SD card, and remove the current "update.zip" file that is on the root menu of the SD card. Download the new one from that site, and put it where you just removed the first one from.

Power off the droid, and use the steps from before to get to recovery mode.
Choose Install > "Allow update.zip installation", then choose "/sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)"

It will install. if it doesn't reboot for you when it is done (i think it did), reboot it. You are all set.
I just had a chance to do this. (Damn responsibilities can really dampen my joy) It worked flawlessly. Thank you .

They would be around 78 or so when I wasn't using it. Sometimes get into the 90's. One time I saw it go to 110.

I think something is sucking up my battery, I really need to take a look at my settings and see what's going on after it's been off the charger for a while. I just shut of GPS, I know it's not suppose to be using power when it's off but I'm trying everything now.

Update. I don't see anything unusual other then Shop Savvy is running and I never started that. Back to bar code reader!
