I Can't Believe I Rooted My Droid

Martin showed me via im about several fail safes in SetCpu that I didn't know about. Had I have had those set I'm sure i wouldn't have had a battery issue last night.

I set the fail safes yesterday after rooting and installing bb7.4. I haven't had any heating issues yet and love the results so far, but I went to bed last night with 70% battery and woke up 6 hours later and the battery was dead to the point that it wouldn't boot.

Set the 'charging' profile back down to 550mhz instead of OC'd. The battery charging is going to generate heat anyway, no need to add to the heat by running the OC. Just a tip :)

chrashes........nope Im running smooth. I am glad i rooted b4 the update because if they trying to stop rooting then its going to be hard to get the wifi tethering. Just yesterday the iphone guys at work could not get a 3g signal i went to each one of them turned on mi tether and allowed them to tether off me for 30 secs just so they could see what having a real 3g network on a smart phone can do for it......can i say owned.

good tip, when I first OC'd I set my charging to 800max and 550min. My phone felt like it was going to exploded!! lol I have it set the same as my regular profile now (950max 225min) all seems well :)

Same here. Plus I figure if it does heat up, the failsafe profile should throttle down the CPU anyway :)

Mine is set at 250/125.

I'm still not sure what caused the battery to drain last night, but everything seems to be working good today.

doo that effect calls coming in or anything being that low.

Well, keep in mind you have a maximum and a minimum. Your mimum is 125 so that's enough to power everything. If your phone is sleeping you got to and I hate to use the word but assume that you're not using the Droid for anything else. So it shouldn't bother in coming calls. Don't forget the moment the call comes in the Droid wakes up.

cool just wanted to make sure i wouldnt have any problems when recieving a call. I went a head and changed that profile, thanks

I don't know about "overclocking" either.

When you are logged into a system as root (the root user) you have admin rights...full access. Out of the box you do not have full access to do whatever you want with your phone. The OTA (over the air) update we got opened the door for some to figure out how to gain access to "root". With that accomplished they could move forward and modify the phone. The CPU runs at 600mhz normally and Motorola slowed it down (underclocked) to 550mhz. This was most likely done to save battery power. With root access on your phone it is possible to install software, replace the kernel, replace the operating system and enhance what we have already. There are folks running their CPU twice as fast as it comes out of the box. There are people who now can take their laptop to a remote location with no wifi or network access and have it connect to the internet (tether) through their phone and the cell towers. Custom themes, new apps, faster response times.

At the same time, such activities can lead to an entire day posting questions every 30 seconds in a forum if you don't follow directions or read up on what to expect before hand. Even though this 5 dollar app removes some of the fear factor it isn't 100 percent plug-n-play. It also voids your phone's warranty....but nobody's wrecked their phone either.

and this thread http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...-sholesmod-2-0-1-baegel-updated-2-4-10-a.html and even if you decide not to root yet you'll be enlightened.
Very useful info, Christim; I appreciate it. Now I'll have to decide if I should go that way or not. It sounds really tempting, though.

I'm just a little afraid to ruin my phone.

Rocky

This is like the mod bug for cars.

I got my car. Said it's fine the way it is. But then, I Threw a bigger cam and some long tune headers and a better intake on my brand new car, gained 90 hp.

I got my phone. Said it's fine the way it is. But then, I rooted my brand new phone and now am running Bugless Beast, gained 250 mhz. At least this was near free.
