I Can't Believe I Rooted My Droid

droidmod/sholemod = worst app ever created for android.

teaches people nothing about the phone, and leaves people to ask awful questions on forums that they should've already known the answer to before they rooted.

Not really sure what that comment means, but I used Droidmod yesterday to root and install the 2.1 goodies last night. I have no complaints. Everything went smooth and is running perfectly.
But I also read the boards and schooled myself up prior to doing it. I've never been able to leave anything alone, my phone is no different.

The Droid and operating system is remarkable. :icon_ banana:

Lets see. I've got six inches of snow to move off my driveway. I'll get a better work out if I shovel, but I'll do a cleaner and quicker job if I use my snow blower. Well snow blower sucks because I don't learn the lesson of hard work!

You're absolutely wrong. By using droidemod I've learned a great deal about my phone. I see the process working in front of my eyes. I understand now what SPRecovery is. I've rooted and removed three times now. I'm much more educated about my Droid.

Now let me get that snow blower out.;) Tomorrow.

I'm one of those that don't need to do it, but want to just for the sake of speeding things up. I've read so much i'm confused!

Rooted Saturday!! DroidMod 1.0 ,all the 2.1 stuff minus the laucher. Live wallpapers while using home++ too woot!! 800mhz and wifi tether! lovin in!

The end result is what counts. I took the path in my sig. It didn't take long at all. I like tinkering with things though. If you need wifi (or to hook's point the snow off the driveway) just take whatever path you think will get you there. Go with your gut and remember that if you screw up using any method option 3 below gets you back to to day 1, hour 0 but it seldom comes to that. All methods have you create a recovery back up so you can get back to right where you were prior to trying to update things. All apps, all data, desktop layed out with your icons, etc.

Good analogy - if we were to listen to people like Funk - we'd still be using MS DOS.

Good info in your sig. I think i'll read it over and over again then get prepared and give it a go. Smoked Glass does look good!

Someone else had said in a post here somewhere that if this was a PC, they wouldn't any issues about hacking into it. I feel the same way. I'll take the plunge tomorrow! :giggidy giggidy:

I am confused too. I want to try it but I am not sure which way to go about it because I don't understand the difference between droidmod, sholes, bugless beast, or if I should use the guide on 'How to install: 2.1 the easy way' from the hacking section... What should I do!

What is the pros/cons of each of these methods??!

I would like to put 2.1 on my phone, be able to tether still and still use my phone as a webcam, overclock it, and do any of these ways lead to a phone that works with flash? I know the 'how to install 2.1 the easy way' guide says no flash support in browser.

I want to root so bad i can taste it.....But i am so afraid to brick it! They say its easy to get it rooted...and after reading these threads it really seems easy but what im worried about is all the talk you can still brick it after its rooted!

To root or not to root....that is the question????

I am the biggest tool when it comes to having the confidence to modify anything, so when the possibility of rooting my Droid, this old man was scared to death to try it. Well, I ended up doing it and have not looked back. There's so much more you can do with a rooted Droid. The nice thing, you can be back to stock in just a couple of minutes. Now, I'm not saying to use the ROM, but at least install the Droid Mod 1.0 and run it to root your phone. It's the easiest method out there and there's not much you have to do at all. I just switched to the Smoked Glass ROM yesterday and it's the best out there. But, maybe you'd want to just do the DM1.0 for now and once you're familiar with the Root process, move to a different custom ROM. The thing is, you can't brick the Droid, you just have to go into Recovery mode and you can reinstall the stock ROM. So, keep that thought out of your head, it won't happen.

I am almost tempted to root my droid now. Has anyone actually bricked their phone by rooting?

Where are the exact instructions on how to do it? Maybe that will help with some of my questions.

You just asked the same question he answered.. You cannot brick the droid. Everything can be undone.

Here's how to root

Here's how to unbrick
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-help/24707-unroot-unbrick-your-phone-using-sbf.html

If you mess up the unbricking process (which is unlikely to happen anyway), then you will officially have a paperweight. If you cannot follow instructions that a 5 year old can follow, then you deserve to not have a phone. If you are smarter than a 5 year old, you're in the clear.
