I don't get it... at all.

The manager made it so difficult for me to swap my phone I cant even imagine trying to do it again.

I would wonder if it were just a bad phone if it were not for so many with the same issue.

Got mine at Best Buy. No hassles with exchanges. I bought my Droid X there at launch and had to take three back to exchange for various issues.

There's not much to get. People here are very techy, very picky, and in most cases willing to pay for it. What many of the regular posters on this forum want is a phone with the latest/top-end everything, and most would be willing to pay another $100 for that. Problem is, the OEM's apparently don't think they would sell enough of such phones to bother producing one like that. Every phone out there, even the ones going for $300 on contract, make trade-offs and the people complaining are really just frustrated over being forced to make trade-offs.

I posted a pretty long review and my thoughts on the phone and I have to agree with the OP. I'm critical and very finicky when it comes to my tech toys, but even moreso with my phone, as it's on me at all times.

Of all the high tech products I've ever owned, much less a cell phone, this is by far the best thing I've ever bought. It's not even close.

Your sig says it all to me. I said before that individuals who came from the OG would be happy and enjoy this phone. People like me that have way too much time and money will be less pleased with the phone because besides being a dev phone this device really isnt that special.

My question is this: If this device weren't a dev phone would the build quality, volume issues, radio issues, and poor battery life be acceptable on a top tier device?

There's a lot of us who aren't having volume, radio or battery issues, so yes it is very acceptable for a top tier device.

Love my nexus so far. I don't use it for video streaming and whatnot. I facebook on it, call people, text people, email and play some angry birds.
I'm getting 1.5 days + out of my extended battery. And if they fix the Android OS battery drain bug, I will probably get even more.

+1 to the op. Couldn't have said it better.

My battery life is OK. I bought the spare battery and charger. Really isn't hard to Cary around a 1.5x1.5x.25 battery that doesn't weigh anything. Between it and charging in less than 2 hours I haven't been close to running out of juice.

Haven't had connectivity issues except I think the display reads low. I have 0 bars at my office and can still make calls without dropping. The office next to me on ATT had 1 bar and drops calls all the time. (We just moved and the building is blocking signal)

Overall this phone is working as the specs advertised. Rooted and rommed on day 2 is priceless.

I'm not having any problems at all and I agree, it's just awesome top to bottom. The Bionic had the same situation, some had no problems and some had a bunch. I would hate to keep exchanging phones but there are "perfect" examples to be had.. It's worth doing imo.

Because with an 1850mAh battery you should not have to carry a stockpile of batteries to get you through the day if you are a light to moderate user.

Why do you think that? 1850mAh is not huge, to get the usage I believe you want, you need a 2200-24mAh battery. But that makes the phone much thicker, and apparently that's not sexy in today's smartphone market. By the way we've known for months that 4G sucks battery like a black hole, so why would this phone be different?

1. Batteries are amazing now days, but there are limits.
2. A spare battery is cheap
3. Easy to carry
4. Makes it completely unimportant to be around power.
5. The only guys that should worry about this is Razr owners, they are stuck with what's on board.

I am not bashing the OP but we are at the point now where this is not a "CELL PHONE" anymore.. look at the nexus advertising page it barely even mentions that this thing can even make calls (other than video calls)... face it making calls is the SECONDARY purpose of a smartphone... when all we had was dumbphones all the goodies were secondary now the calling is becoming secondary..

To the point about saying that if I wanted a good camera I should have known what to expect b/c it's only a 5MP camera.. honestly MP doesn't really mean that much, and the iPhone 4 (not S) only has a 5MP camera but the optics and sensor are good and that phone is over a year old and the pictures taken from it are noticeably better. They (google/samsung) made a big deal about the camera and it doesn't live up to their own billing I wasn't the one hyping the camera pre-launch..

There's a lot of us who aren't having volume, radio or battery issues, so yes it is very acceptable for a top tier device.

As is evident by the plethora of others posting, there are plenty of us here who are having radio issues and deem the battery life to be sub par. There are PLENTY of people that have issues with this phone. Since when is ignoring the fact that a good amount of people are having battery or radio issues with this phone the right thing to do? If one person complains that's one thing. If MULTIPLE people are saying that there is an issue, chances are it's a problem with the phone.

What phone did you upgrade from? Just curious

If you're rooted/rom'ed, battery issues fluctuate. Some roms/kernels have fastanastic battery, some don't, and it's all dependent on each user's handset.

I've had very bad battery issues with my Fascinate with one setup, and very good battery with others. I expect the same with the GNEX. It's all part of the modding community, so I'm ok with it.

What I don't understand is people complaining about battery life on a device that has a changeable battery.
Guys, two words, "spare battery".

I have three batteries, two on chargers one at home, and one at work.
I use the Hell out of my phone, I'm sure they can see me from space with one of those NSA spy satellite.
If I'm not broadcasting on at least 3 radios at all times, I'm not happy.
The cost of such use is battery life, it's not magic, and the fix only costs a few bucks.

Because my other device got 20+ hours without the need for one. Its a hassle to me to have to spend another 40 bucks on another battery and charger shell. And its s hassle to carry it around

it's as if everyone expected the device to be 'the best thing to come out since sliced bread'.

We did.

We fantasized about it for months and it's not living up to our fantasies
:p

Mine won't even boot up anymore!
 I'm more than bummed!!!

First of all I am 10 miles out of a 4G area so I stay in CDMA only. The only times I am in a 4G area I am hooked to my car charger.

Yes an 1850mAh batter is not huge. But my Droid X has an extended battery which is 1840mAh and I get a full day out of it and still have around 20-30% by the time I head to bed. My Bionic stock battery at 1735mAh gets about the same. The extended for the Bionic is mind blowing but it is also 2760mAh. So to think that using the GN the same way I do the other two that I should get about the same life out of it's battery is not too much to ask.
