ICS Battery life

Okay guys I know this may not be the place but I am out of ideas. I have a Droid X and it is laggy as hell. I see that alotof you have done FDR on your Maxx. Will this work on the X as well. I never did a FDR from Froyo to Gingerbread. Sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds to make a simple call. Do I wipe it clean then go back into the Google store and manually restore my apps? Once again, sorry for the ignorance.

Thanks

FoxKat, if you wouldn't mind, could you explain what the battery training is actually doing? How does it work?

Just curious.

An fdr can help any device.. it cleans things up, makes things snappy and fresh. Try it :)

DROID RAZR MAXXIMIZED!!!! PREPARE TO BE VANQUISHED!!!

I'm not FoxKat, but I'll explain what I know.

Training the battery meter makes it more accurate, it stops you from showing 50% and then having a dead phone and you not knowing why. FoxKat can give you more in depth details.. also, these devices apparently get a batter charge when powered off.. no parasitic effects drain the battery, allowing it to hold 100% charge..

***UPDATE***
After being at work and around 10 hours later my phone has went from 40% down to 20% with some use (but not much). This is what I would of expected before the upgrade. I feel the maxx will start giving me 2 days between charges once again. I did the fdr and also did not re-install anything at all besides contacts. After I get down to 10%I will once again shut it off and recharge it to 100%.

Thanks guys for all your hard work!!

***update***

After 16 hours off of a charger I am still at 80% charge. This is with minimum usage but I am extremely happy!! MY MAXX IS BACK!!

Looks like another satisfied customer. And my fellow agents are spreading the news so it's a double success!

Great job Agent 94 (AKA 94lt1), and also lowfatdog (BTW, are you Chicken, Beef, Turkey or Pork? :icon_ rofl:)

Right - this makes sense. I guess what I'm asking for is an underlying explanation for how it improves the accuracy... just curious!

I would also like to note that I did a FDR on Friday evening and it dramatically improved the battery life of my MAXX.

I am seeing many of these success stories and getting very jealous!

Prior to ICS, I consistently was seeing about 48 hours on a charge. Once I updated with the OTA, I started seeing about 20-24 hours on a charge (same usage, same "screen on" time). I ensured all widgets and apps were set to max update intervals or manual, if available (basically, the ICS set up is exactly how I had GB set up). After several days with no change, I began running several FDRs using suggestions from this site and others with no improvement. The last FDR I performed was yesterday. On this one, I unchecked "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" then manually installed all apps/settings after the reset was completed. I am still seeing no improvement. For example, last night while I was sleeping (no usage), battery level dropped from 50% to 20%. I do not see any rogue apps on my battery details. See attached screenshot.

Am I missing something?

I have done 2 FDR and the second one I did the backup of the apps myself. I only got 12-14 hours on gb and Im getting the same on ics. I would be happy to be getting 20-24 hours off a charge with my phone.

I don't think it can be stressed enough for people with battery issues/concerns to follow FoxKat's 'Battery training' advice. When I first got my Maxx (about a month ago), I was extremely dissappointed with the battery life. My phone would be saying my battery was at 50% being off the charger for 4-6 hours. It was searching Google that I stumbled upon this awesome forum and found how to 'prime' or 'train' my battery correctly. It really is not that time consuming and has greatly helped!

Just for clarification, you are training the battery meter. The battery itself does not require any training or conditioning.

That said, Professor FoxKat's procedure has helped resolve many battery-related issues.

Can I gloat??

I've noticed I've gone from 40-48 hours to 30-36 hours, yet ICS runs with no lag and I ALWAYS do FoxCat's power-down on battery charges and no charging until 10-15% available capacity, seems to work well on my device, only will improve with ICS fix coming out soon. Yet I also use my device ALOT more and for whatever reason, as soon as I take it off the charger, it dips to 90% available capacity, normal?

There is no need to charge to 100% while OFF all the time. Nor is it necessary to regularly drain to 10%. Professor FoxKat recommends this procedure be accomplished once every 2 to 3 months. In between, use and charge as necessary. Partial charges of short duration are not harmful, and there is some evidence that this can extend battery life.
