ICS Battery life

So here is an example of what my phone did while I slept last night, I just took a screenshot when I opened my phone. I see a lot of ppl that keep saying well I want good "on screen time" Well that's an achievement we wall want. A clean frd helps greatly in improving your "on screen" times. But you also want to achieve good off screen times when you're not using your phone. This is where learning & turning off background applications and running services on apps comes into play. What good is it to say well I'm getting excellent on screen times and that's what matters when you go to sleep at night and you wake up too your phone drained 10+% in the 5-7 you were asleep because your phone kept waking itself up to check for updates. Before learning to turn services off, I noticed about a 6-10+% drain of my battery every night when I slept which is only about 4-5 hours. I actually got 11 hours last night lol, but if you can see clearly, I got 11+ hours last night while me and my phone slept and my battery was at 93%. That was from a full charged 100% down to 93% on 11 hours.

Also my phone was not on 4g last night it was on wifi. But I am in a 4g area with good coverage and I can't tell that much of a difference in testing both these at night when I go too sleep. I think wifi has a slight edge, but I only achieve an hour maybe and hour and a half more with the wifi turned on.

If you have Google set to backup your contacts, they will auto-populate. You can also turn on Backup Assistant from the Contacts Menu selection and then choose "Sync Now". That will provide a full backup to the Verizon servers so that when you restore, it will re-populate them.

You may also wish to download and install https://play.google.com/store/apps/...hu.CallLogBackupRestore&feature=search_result, and https://play.google.com/store/apps/....SMSBackupRestore&feature=more_from_developer. Both will allow you to restore your call logs and SMS messages in their original state after the reset as well. Just make sure that if you plan to wipe the internal memory card, when you run these two utilities that you go into the menu, preferences, backup folder selection and change the backup destination from /mnt/sdcard/CallLogBackupRestore/ to /mnt/sdcard-ext/CallLogBackupRestore/, and do the same on the SMS utility and change /mnt/sdcard/SMSBackupRestore/ to /mnt/sdcard-ext/SMSBackupRestore. Also, make sure you don't choose to wipe the external memory card. Better safe than sorry, simply remove it before the restore.

Thanks!!

You can do this at any time. Just turn off the device and charge. It doesn't matter if its 20, 40, 70%... because the training starts at 100% when you turn the device on after its been fully charged.

I am having similar problems but for me it is saying media is draining most of my battery when I have been idle on the phone. What media could this be. i see a program running called process.media.android. What is this? I am very frustrated with this my phone use to last all day now it lasts a couple of hours.

I did a FDR 2 days ago without restoring apps, and noticed a tremendous improvement in battery life already. After heavy usage the next day, streaming music for 7 hours straight with the screen on the entire time at 100% brightness, i was still at 56%. Working on getting it down to 10 now to do my second full charge training, and hopefully that helps even more.

Well I'm glad to see you are achieving better battery times with the right steps. I notice a lot of people are now using the steps implemented to get their Maxx to full potential. It works, so keep posting results with updates to show it's working. IMO this is the best phone on the market, I love mine. I think once everyone sees that a fresh clean installation of apps after a fdr is performed, their phone will show it's potential with even greater results like it did in Gingerbread.

I did a FDR a second time and did not install backed up apps...then did a clean install of all my apps. I had 60% last night when I did it now at 23% and have 20.5 hrs on battery so far trying to run it down and then put full charge on it tonight then run it down again and then another 100% charge and report back....but thanks for all the advice and posts from everybody.

I just did a FDR. Everything else I have tried failed to bring back the battery life. I am at 40% and going to work. If everything goes right, it should be at 20 or 30% when I get home. The question about motocast....go back a page or two, there is good instuctions with a picture on how to turn it off.

***UPDATE***
After being at work and around 10 hours later my phone has went from 40% down to 20% with some use (but not much). This is what I would of expected before the upgrade. I feel the maxx will start giving me 2 days between charges once again. I did the fdr and also did not re-install anything at all besides contacts. After I get down to 10% I will once again shut it off and recharge it to 100%.

Thanks guys for all your hard work!!

Well today I really only used my phone for about 20 pics 2 short 1 minute phone calls and 15 minutes of navigation. I'm at 30% with 3 hours and 10 minutes of on screen time. And about 15 hours of battery. Don't know how u guys with heavy usage get over a day without charging.

I noticed this is too, so I went and got juice defender ultimate. I really don't know if it does anything at all for or against the battery life, but I use it anyway. It's somewhat annoying having to wait for the data connection to come back every time you turn the screen on though.

Be aware juice defender kills your push email but it will save you a ton of battery life.

For me it was the google play store that was killing my battery when first installing ICS along with my data so I set it to check for app updating on wifi only that helps a little
