Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

Root does not cause the update to fail. Its only when system files are changed when it becomes an issue. I forever rooted before I took the soak and didn't have any trouble with the update. If you were able to root, you should be able to figure out how to fxz back to 905 if the update fails. Its not rocket science.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC

So I don't have to unroot, just change any settings I made changes to back to default? That should be easy if I can find the original posts. Haven't made that many changes.

I think that what happened since Friday is still the "Soak Test" even though people who hadn't signed up for any test got it. I've seen before where random phones would receive updates when a soak test was occuring. I also saw on another forum(or maybe it was somewhere in these 89+pages) that a user received a follow up e-mail over the weekend from Motorola asking them to provide feedback by Monday 10-22 so that they would have information to Go/No-Go with the full rollout. Does this sound plausible?

+1 for successful HoB from 232 to 246. Thanks a bunch Sam. I used your work to get to 232 about a month ago, hit a few bumps but made it. This round was smooth, no data loss, took about 45-50 mins (no music), and rooted once again.

Cheers and now looking forward to JB.

Very plausible and follows history pretty accurately. And I would add that it appears the number of people that are being randomly added to the test is pretty substantial. Another interesting point, the regular Moto forum has quite a few ICS questions/problems. I don't mean there appears to be a lot of issues its just in the past during a soak test if you posted anything in the regular forum it got shut down in a split second. In fact if I recall the 905 soak correctly we got locked out of the regular forum during the test.

I would only say that I don't believe there isn't a go/no-go decision related to the soak test. I think the 'soak test' is just a controlled opinion poll so they know what to expect for support calls and how fast to roll out the regular OTA...and to gather information on how well the upgrade works for people. I believe that because if there was a go/no-go based upon the answers to the questions 905 would have been a no go.

i don't think this is like any other soak test before, far more non-testers...a lot more open info from Moto. Seems things have changed on the whole procedure. I am starting to like the new Moto.

OK. I have been reading through the 89 pages on this thread and have a pretty simple question. I have .905 OTA. Have never rooted or modded my phone in any way. I have been checking for the .246 OTA update every 5 minutes and am going insane. Is there a simple way to load .246 on my phone and not lose my data? Would I do this through HOB? I read through all the stuff on HOB and it explicitly states that it's not meant for noobs. Am I better off just waiting for the OTA?

It's not meant for n00bs. However, if you can follow fairly straight forward instructions and do what it tells you to do, then it's successful damn near 100% of the time. And when there's a legit issue with the process, I'm there to help fix it. My requirement for using the HoB is to read the OP, read the FAQ, and follow directions. That's pretty much it. I've had so many people tell me how easy it was and they couldn't believe they didn't do it before. As I tell everyone, install it and do a "dry run" with the phone unplugged. Say N to all the prompts during the 246 install option....it'll show you all the steps that you need to perform. If after doing a dry run you feel comfortable with it, plug her in, and let her go.

Awesome. I'm gonna give it a try. I really appreciate all you answers and support for this phone!
