Kernels, Get Your Kernels, RED HOT Kernels! - Sapphire - 0.7.0

our suggestion, if you come from any other rom than sapphire, wipe data/cache... if not we aren't responsible for any problems

Cool!!

Excited to try out your guys work!! I hear nothing but good things from this

Downloading now and will wipe data/cache x3 dancedroid

Does wiping data more than once actually do anything? If so, can someone explain why? Just seems like an old wives' tale/superstition.

Its like rinsing a glass out. You always do it 2-3x just in case. There's always a small posibility that a wipe won't catch everything. This could be fact, could be fiction idk. But its just a step we take just in case. And in he end isn't it really worth an extra wipe or two if it can help with problems?

just noticed you guys use wget to download extra apps for the scripts.. that's just genius!

Can someone please tell me how to use the scripts? I have never used scripts on any ROMs and am a lil confused.

Thanks in advance!

Download Android Terminal Emulator from the market.
Open the emulator, type su -> enter key and run scripts from there. I have posted a bugzilla feature request to have an app made to run them.

This is running extremely hot on my phone. Battery is 41-43 after just a few minutes in Tapatalk. Running this with P3s newer 250-1000 kernel set to 600/250. Its never gotten this hot with any ROM, or any of the newer FRF84B builds and it worries me because the top part above the battery is even hotter than over the battery. W/O cpu temps this freaks me out even more.

Best quote I ever saw around here was (to paraphrase) "this ain't toilet paper...one wipe is plenty". ;)

I've only ever done it once when needed, but there are those who swear that problems went away after wiping a second (or third) time.

Depends on how the wiping actually works I suppose. If it's like a normal PC quick format option then you are probably fine with just one wipe. Usually the reason multiple formats or special tools to format are for security purposes to ensure that there is nothing recoverable from a drive after format (ie, write random 0's and 1's over the entire drive multiple times..etc).

I think it's just a placebo type thing for people. unless the wipe actually failed to finish for some reason *shrugs*.

well the area above the battery is where the processor is...it becomes hotter than the battery most of the time when running anything that requires higher than normal power

I'm aware, which is why something is not meshing with Sapphire and my phone. And why it is way not good for my phone to get that hot when using Tapatalk for a few minutes, especially when it's never done this before Sapphire.

Speed of Sapphire

I've been running 0.7.0 since it came out and have the phone set up how I like now, so I wanted to post my Quadrant to compare my setup with others.

The kernel is P3 250-1000 MHz LV

Running ADW launcher with lots of Widgets

SetCPU at 250/1000 Performance for the test

I feel like it should be at least as fast as the Nexus One, so I'm going to look for some more speed somewhere in my setup.

I ran it again and killed all tasks - got 1217.

Do the freeXmb scripts speed up the phone? I'm on the default configuration now.

the freeXmb scripts go against they way linux operates. Linux likes using cache because unused ram is wasted ram. I think they make the phone feel sluggish. It's the same reason I don't use a task killer. If I need to make sure a program is dead, I can go to the settings, applications, and kill it from there.
