Maylong M-150 universal android tablet

I still say, figure out what you want and then jump in. There's no point in scrimping if you can afford to pay for something better up front because you'll be happier with it, it'll last you longer, and you won't spend extra by giving in and buying it in a few months anyway. :)

Hi people I wanted to know if anyone else had attempted to root their Maylong M-150?
I also wanted to know if anyone has encountered any bugs so far.
Any suggestions on how much you can overclock the cpu using Setcpu?

Yeah, add me to the list. I have had this thing since Monday to learn Android features. I am thinking about getting a name brand one eventually, but I needed some hands-on experience.

It only took a few days before I decided that I needed the Apps Market to make this thing useful. Update was worth it for that feature alone. Just getting going on this today so I have not seen a bug yet.

Hey mcocorochio,

Which device you have the original name brand Maylong M-150 or the no name version thats sold on DealExtream?

Also have you played with the overclocking feature?

I have maylong 150. Probably won't overclock til bored with learning android. I am not game oriented, trying to turn this into small productivity tool. Based on how long it took me to type this response, it may take awhile.
Trying to make local copy of my Google contact list now.

returned the maylong m150

I returned the maylong to Walgreens today. while I really like the tablet concept I have to thank Crypto for sharing the tablet comparison link. I took a look and plan on spending a bit more to get the 2.2 Android Market place. I was not interested in hacking around even for the price.
Couple of challenges I had - I loaded music via a SDcard and it started shutting down everytime I turned it on saying the SD had been removed, it had not. Not a big deal but that with the very short battery life was enough. .... happy day

nbh944,

Did you have any problem returning it? I have one but I am coming to the conclusion that a 10" netbook will be a lot better with Windows 7 and a long life battery.

nbh,
Have you found a 2.2 device that has Market really working? If you have, I am probably going to join you. The Maylong has been great as a learning device and I don't regret it. It may become either a picture display or a solitair game for my wife.
I would like to get a 2.2, but I found I don't want any machine without the assurance that Market is really working. On 2.2 you can download the real Gmail (local contact and calendar replication) if Market is working also.

Let me know what you find,
Mike C

maylong return was easy

Walgreens was great about the return. I went in when they were not busy. The manager had to go look up how to return it but other than that it was a pleasant experience....

Mike,
based on the comparison Crypto shared (there is a link in posting #75 in this trail) I am most likely going to get the Witstech A81E Android 2.2,800MHz CPU Market+Free Case+Bluetooth Removable battery @ $189 it seems to have everything I want. I have an android phone so want the 2.2 and like the idea of a removable/replaceable battery. I hope to order it this week.

Here's my overall experience with the Maylong. I have SN 150100. I ordered it and it took Walgreens about 1 week to process the order. Then they had a problem with the supplier and so I didn't get it shipped to me for another week.

Once I received it, the box came with the tablet itself, a stylus, a port adapter that has a female ethernet connector and two USB ports, and the power adapter.

The original firmware version was WMT 2.1.1.-105, if I remember correctly. The Android Market is not the actual market, but a very limited version of it. The wifi worked intermittently and would drop out every so often.

The touch screen is resistive but still okay.

The battery life was not very good. I got about 1 hour out of it after a charge for 1 hour. When charging it longer (after the little red charging light goes off), I was able to get about 1.5 to 2 hours. This was with wifi off. I didn't mess with the screen brightness.

I tried playing a Xvid movie on it via microSD card and it was very choppy and the sound lost sync. I was hoping to use this as a portable media player plus internet tablet. But, that didn't seem to pan out.

I then tried installing Tipstir's Epad ROM as listed on his site, but that didn't work because it reported a "process failed" error. I had to return to a VIA 8505 rom. That seemed to bring the tablet back from its bricked state.

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for in this case. I am planning on returning mine.

Hope this brief review helps someone make the right choice.

I've been reading this forum and have a question.

Does anyone LIKE their Maylong M-150?

Mine is on order and now I'm wondering if I made a mistake getting one. Wish I would have stumbled on to this forum first.

Thanks for the input.
