Memory Performance Tweaks

eh? my OP states:

1. Download the attached V6_SuperCharger_for_Android.zip and extract the script to your sdcard.
... Do NOT run the V6 SuperCharger install script at boot!
2. Load the script (V6_SuperCharger_for_Android.sh) into Script Manager and select "Run as Root."
3. Touch the screen for the soft keyboard or slide out the keyboard and get SuperCharged! Just pick an option!
4. READ the script's output!
5. Afterwards, READ the html HELP FILE in the root of your SD Card!
6. Disable "Lock Home in Memory" if your ROM has this option.
7. Optional: For a quick status check, you can put a Script Manager widget for V6 SuperCharger on you desktop

What's so complicated about that?

This one has no need for busybox, and you must have just recently edited your post to remove all the stuff about milestone because that was super confusing. Either that or I found an old thread of yours, which is what came up in a Google search. Also this tutorial actually explains what to look for, which options to enter, all in a nice, clean, concise manner, not laden with font changes, paragraph breaks, and smilies. As someone who is brand new to the Droid modding scene, this one made me feel confident and sure that I was doing it right. The phrase "Just pick an option!" in your tutorial had me extremely worried due to the fact that there are 15 different options. I'm sure I would have figured it out eventually, but this tutorial took a lot of the stress out of the situation. This tutorial also discusses setting 99SuperCharge.sh to run at boot, though you may have set that up automatically in a later update (as this one uses version 4). If so, perhaps specify it more clearly as there are a lot of versions of the supercharge script running around.

In addition the fact that this is under the Droid X2 forum made me know it would work on my phone without a doubt, because all the things I've been reading about developers leaving the X2 in the dust has me worried that something tagged with "works for all droids" may not be updated correctly.

Again this is just me being new and confused. I thank you for actually making the supercharger script, as it works great.

The milestone stuff is in the first thread at xda in the milestone forum and it's still there.
Obviously I removed it from the droidforums thread.

You won't get far without busybox.

Plus, it's all spelled out nicely in the html help file...
I'm sure you found the OP long enough without echoing the entire help file.

Any and all information and instruction came from me, my OPs, and the help file first.

Take a look at the help file :)

And yes, I do say "Pick an option" because quite frankly, if somebody isn't sure what to do, I'd rather that they not do it.

Because it means that they didn't read the OP.

Or it means they can't decipher what "multitasking" or "balanced" or "unsupercharge" or "reboot" or "exit" means.

So yeah, I kinda want the user to be somewhat on the ball...

Minor issue with update 6, I have to enter a scrolling speed each time I open the widget.

Yeah... but it's better than waiting 2 seconds between each line of text the way it used to be lol
Some people use 0 but I like using 1.
2 takes too long indeed but it's a good speed for those that run it the first time.

If you want, you can change line 54 to what speed you like and delete lines 68 to 94

So the version I downloaded was update7, and it had more options than the 16. Does that mean that I should hit an option different than 9 to run the script? There were some errors during it, I think they all mentioned 'not found'. I basically have no idea what I'm doing. :)

Yeah... Zepplin is a great developer and, as such, he releases new versions of the script faster than I can get my steps updated (I'm still on Update 5!)...

The easy answer is: You can't pick a wrong preset... if you're not sure what your'e doing, just don't use the CustOOMized ones, or whatever they're called. Some settings may work better overall, but there are always exceptions. I would pick one of the MegaMemory presets and start there... If not that, then the Aggressive presets are actually conservative for the Droid X2 (cause of 512 RAM instead of 256).

Yeah I ended up picking the MegaMem2 or something like that. There's time when my phone screams now and times when it's as laggy as ever. A faulty unit I would guess. I kind of want to wait for GB to see if it addresses any of these issues, but since that could be in months, I dunno what to do. :(

When is it lagging?
- If it's only during 3D games, then I'd be less likely to blame it on the hardware... In some cases, MegaMemory presets can actually make memory-intensive games play worse.
- If it's lagging when you're just going through the home screen and basic apps, then that's not normal... it should be flying through things like gmail, browser, market, etc. If you take it in to exchange, make sure you have an easily reproducible example that you can show the Verizon rep.

Hey vvildcard I wanted to thank you for helping people with the script.

You have more patience than I do in some areas and I sometimes get a tad impatient when repeating stuff that's in the OPs and help file :p

You're much classier than that nerdslogic thief so you should wipe any mention of him in your posts :p

I don't play very many games. Its almosy always when I'm scrolling through the home screens or trying to open my browser, texts, or email. I use Dolphin, Handcent, and K-9 for those respectively.

This one has no need for busybox,

Busybox is highly recommended... a number of tweaks won't work without it. This is something I have been meaning to add for a while now and keep forgetting, so I'll do it tonight.

I'm glad to hear these steps gave you confidence to use the script... that was absolutely my primary purpose. This post is intended to be for Droid X2 users only and, beyond that, accessible to people who don't have the time/desire to understand everything that's going on 'under the hood' (pun intended, sorry). Zepplin's original thread over on the XDA forum and his help files are, if I'm not mistaken, intended for a more general audience (any android user)... it would be impossible for him to keep up with instructions for every phone/ROM/version combo.

greycobalt I see your earlier post.
Did you get the script running without error?
Did you reboot and have 99supercharger.sh run at boot and as root?

It seems to be running without error. And I did have that script run with root and at boot.

But guys, I'm seriously about to lose it. This phone is driving me mad. I just want to bleeping text my friends! Right now, every 5 minutes, when I try to enter anything into the text boxes, nothing shows up. Autocorrect pops up like I'm typing, but nothing appears, and I can't send the invisible words. I've tried switching to voice input, swype, multi-touch, smart keyboard pro, everything. It's driving me absolute bonkers. The only fix is to reboot the phone.

And then on top of that, also every 5 or 10 minutes, I'm unable to send/receive texts or calls. The data works fine, as in I can browse the Internet and Facebook app and whatever, but texts don't go through. To fix this, I have to restart the phone, and when it turns back on, I get a boatload of texts and possibly voicemails I had missed in the interim, and the messages I attempted to send before I rebooted get sent 5 or 6 times to the recipient. Can this in any way be explained by this script nonsense? Or is my phone totally losing it's mind?

I'm gearing up to march into Verizon tomorrow and get a new X2, and pray I get a working model. I'm a sad panda.

None of that is because of the script... I can say that with 100% certainty. Something else is going horribly wrong and your best bet is to swap the hardware.
