Memory Performance Tweaks

Hey Guys,

This is my first post, and my first droid x2 phone, so I'm a total noob. I applied the supercharger and sd speed hacks, but I don't really notice that much of a difference from stock. I read somewhere that it's supposed to free up more memory. I saw a picture someone posted of their running services and it showed like 200 free ram. Mine only shows 100 max. I followed steps carefully and made sure I installed correct busybox version. I also installed new minimalx rom, but still don't see that much ram available. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Why do you want so much free RAM? There's no reason to have more than 50 MB of free RAM, let alone 100 or 200... But if you want to make adjustments, the 3rd 'Step' in the settings you choose in SuperCharger is going to determine how much free RAM you have, in general.

For example, if you set it to 6 12 24 40 60 80, then you should expect to have no less than 24 MB free. If you set it to 6 12 400 210 220 230, then you should expect to see 400 MB free... I guarantee you'll have problems, though, if you set the 3rd Step to 400, though. This is because the system is clearing your cached RAM everytime you get below 400 MB free... programs will crash.

The OS does use some of the 'free' RAM to cache things (it's in use, even though it's showing as free)... so things will seem snappier when you have free RAM. But there is a point where more is not better... From what they're saying over at XDA, it sounds like 40-50 is plenty.

Thanks for quick response. I thought having more free ram would make phone faster, but I guess you're right. I'm satisfied with the way it's running. Wasn't sure about the whole ram thing.

So after my rage last night I decided the hell with it, and I flashed the minimalist ROM that's in the threads here. Everything's worked like a gem since, more or less. Could the programming have really just been that horrific? Weird.

Anyway, I know next to nothing about ROMs, but is it safe to run this script with it?

It Didn't Change Any Speeds On My X2, Still The Same Both 3G And WiFi If Anything I Noticed That My WiFi Is Extremely Low Both With And Without Your Script. Doesn't Make Sense Because When I First Got It My Down For WiFi Was Around 10Mbps Now I Ran It Again Recently And I'm Only Getting About .3 Or 300kbps. I Don't Know What Could Have Caused That Big Of Change.

UPDATE: The Server That Speedtest.net Defaulted To Was A Poor Server. Tried Another On Wifi And Still Where I'm Supposed To Be. I Also Live In A Spot Where The 3G Is Sh*t. With This New Script I'm Getting Almost Double Both Down And Up.

3G Before:

350-400kbps Down And 300kbps Up.

After:

775kbps Down And 545kbps Up.

MotoBlur Is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

Applied the 3G TurboCharge and my tests showed either no increase or a slight decrease in 3G speeds... I'll leave them in place for now and see if I notice a difference in actual use-testing.

Nix that... in my original test, the second script (KickAssKernelTweak) didn't take... I've got it running now and it really is impressive (40% more bandwidth?).
