Moto Droid Supposedly Getting Froyo on 7/13

I spoke to a Verizon rep tonight. He said August 7th, and that both Droid and Droid X will get the update at the same time. This is was the only guy in the store who could talk tech with me, and was the only rep sporting a Droid X or any Droid phone for that matter.

That is not true not one single VZ rep will not tell a customer a date of an OTA update and if he did he or she is not telling the truth. Once the OTA is released the VZ rep will discussed the OTA to you.

Droid2d2, you seem to like cutting people down and yet your posts would indicate that you are new to this forum... and possibly to the Android world.

If you are going to call people liars (like your statement above indicate) you might want to provide some type of credentials that you have that would indicate how you know that the last post is an outright lie. Unless you witnessed this conversation, you can not in any way state "That is not true not one single VZ rep will discussed the OTA to you"!!!

This is called shell tapping in the business world, and data is required to backup up your statements.

Plus, I believe this could be perceived as a violation of the forum rules by bashing another user. Just saying.......................

I am not calling him a liar but I am stating that a VZ rep will never tell you a release date. Let me ask you this have you called Verizon customer service and asked them when will they release 2.2 for the droid. Please tell me the response you received. Because I just called them and the gentleman response was and quote " At this time I have no information regarding the 2.2 update to your motorola Droid but Verizon is working diligently to provide the latest updates to your phone. You can go to verizon wireless website for future updates and as they will be posted"

Some responses will differ but come on verizon has never in the years they have been in business relayed that information to customers.

If I violated any rules in this forum I am sure that I would know about pretty quickly but I never flamed the guy or verbally abused him in anyway.

You know we ha e one rule in the forum that kind of covers everything and That is to be respectful to each other. This isn't a contest to see who the biggest wise guy is. Nobody cares if you have a BA or even a GED. You act respectfully. If you can't do That then either don't post or risk getting an infraction.

Last we heard from our sources is the Droid the week of 8/8. We will see. In the meantime discuss it respectfully amongst yourselves.

Ha Ha Google said the droid would get froyo at I/O, also supporting all phones sells phone's (ask samsung), and Verizon make's it's money selling service not phone's.

You right about the phone sales vs service but the other factor is phone commitments to the manufacture on quotas met. The more phones that are sold the better opportunity to have exclusive rights to certain models. It is very important for VZ to sell more phones and the success of the first droid has Verizon sitting in the driver seat with Motorola.

Phone no longer made; it would cut into newer phones sales. Think about it .

given Moto's quick press release on the X eFuse issue, it's clear they pay attention to these forums. and because they do, they realize that not releasing 2.2 for the D1 would cause such a revolt, it would make the uproar/class action lawsuits over the i4 seem like a minor tiff/misunderstanding...

No such class action suit ill ever make it to court over a decision from VZ will not release an OTA update. VZ does not have to require any phone updates unless there is a malfunction that hinders the phone to be non-operational. If a software fix is needed to bring the phone to a operational standard the update will be released. Majority of these releases will be done on a smaller scale. 2.2 is an Operating System update that does enhance some features of the droid but as right now the Droid is a fully operational phone despite blue tooth functionality on which does not stop the phone to not operate at a normal level.

VZ fully understand each and every customers concern. There is no signs of 2.2 not being released as I said it will be come but not on Aug 7th. The information that is being provided is not true and very disappointing if by fact it is true or not that VZ employee is providing this information to this website is shame.

It will not go to September unless something is wrong with the file (which we know there isn't) many doubted me on the Storm 5.0 and the S2 and I was dead on about that too. it will be BEFORE or as the D2 comes out which is August 23rd as far as we know. again I was with VZw yesterday so I am pretty sure it didn't change in 24 hours

Second VZW does read this board as well as Moto and contact me at times themselves. So think what you want but the info I post is verified in more than one way.

Now the class action lawsuit will not be needed. VZw will roll Froyo as well as Gingerbread when its ready so everyone calm down a bit and relax VZW wants thier customers to be happy and the Droid lins is huge for them and Moto.........

Why don't you think about it. It's easier for them to sell a Droid which is cheap and get someone into a plan then to sell an expensive new phone for the same plan.

So it makes far more sense to get it to the Droid first.

They make their money on the plans not the phones.

Talked to a verizon regional manager today when I went to go look at the Droid X and he let it slip in a whisper that the 2.2 update for Droid is finished and due any day now OTA with the Droid Incredible update following soon after. He had it running on the Droid he had so it seems pretty credible to me (i didn't get a look at the build number unfortunately). The wait will soon be over!

Did you actually see that 2.2 was running on his Droid? He was probably rooted running a stock 2.2 rom of some sort. Let the OTA come, Im staying right where I am, rooted and custom themed.

Yeah, he showed me the about phone page showing 2.2 in the firmware version but didn't scroll down so I didn't get to see the build number. I really doubt that a verizon employee would run a custom rom and show that off in store.

Also, he had a mobile hotspot app icon on his homescreen and thats something I haven't seen in any of the builds leaked.

It wasn't one of these icons was it? hotspot ..there are already several "mobile hotspot" apps out there that look like they could be very official but in fact are just apps in the open market...

dancedroid I really dig my droid, but I don't dig the runaround I get from Big Red Everytime I ask someone about the 2.2 OTA for Original Droid Users. Does anyone know an actual date? Thanks.

Verizon doesn't have to worry about losing exclusivity with Motorola.. Moto doesn't have the juice to go it alone without major backers like VZW and Google.. maybe someday they will again, but for now without VZW and Google , Motorola couldn't be nearly as successful shopping themselves equally to other carriers..

..just like you mentioned in closing with the success of the first Droid VZW does not have to worry about so-called 'quotas'...

it's not ultimately up to VZW anyway, if Google want's us to have Froyo, Moto and VZW will happily oblige (although obviously on their own schedule)... ..and with their fight against fragmentation, Google wants 2.2 on every device that can handle it...

..if Verizon and Motorola are sitting in the driver seat, the car they are rolling in was built buy Google, and powered by Android...
