Motorola Droid Bionic Release Date?

i don't think it's ugly, per se. but it certainly isn't distinctive. the D1/2, the DX, the iPhones - they are distinctive and set themselves apart. i know it has nothing to do with functionality, but if i'm going to have a beast of a superphone, and pay through the nose for it, then i want it to stand apart both in functionality and appearance. if i'm going to pay for a BMW or Mercedes, i don't want it to be packaged in the body of a Gremlin. maybe i'm just overly vain...

Yes that is EXACTLY how I feel about this phone. Would i take the specs of this over the tbolt? Hell yes 9 out of 9 times.
But I must admit the tbolt is a nice refined phone. It looks sort of like the evo but I always liked that phone over most androids. The kickstand is a nice addition too

Point beingif this bionic had looks like the tbolt Or even like galaxy s, this phone would be a killer on Verizon

honestly the whole dual core specs are awesome but can anyone agree with me the Bionic is just plain ugly :)

I personally don't like the look of it, but I don't think it's ugly and I'm still considering it. The only dual-core phones that please me aesthetically right now are the LG Optimus 2x and the Galaxy S 2.

I really hope this isnt true since my droid is getting harder and harder to use. If it is true i am over the thunderbolt.

Are you rooted, and have you considered it if not? I was feeling the same exact way until I decided to root with Peter Alfonso's GPA12 a month ago. It's like an entirely new phone.

Brandon

Yup rooted. I have the latest froyo version of bugless. It runs fine now, its just I dropped the phone and it landed on the power button. So that's stuck in and doesn't work. I gotta wake up the phone with a charger.

HTC is the worst offender in this regard... check out the XDA forum thumbnails, and you'll see how similar the HTC phones are to each other. Samsung is a close second.

As for your car analogy... I'm a big car buff, and hugely opinionated: The more expensive the BMW or Merc, the uglier it is. The 6- and 7-series look like bloated whale carcasses, while the 3-series coupe is svelte and sexy. The S-class vehicles are bland, while the C- and E-class look poised and modern. Even if I could afford to buy the costlier car, I wouldn't.

I don't see anything about it that makes it better or worse than any other phone... seriously, what stands out either way?

Should it have a white finish or a bunch of chrome and a measly kickstand which would never really be used?

That's pretty much my point. This is supposed to be Moto 's flagship superphone that Jha has been touting since last June.......and there's nothing distinctive in appearance. As you point out, it looks like every other run of the mill phone. The D1, D2, DX, iPhone - they stand out and can't be mistaken for any other phone. Vanity/superficial?? Maybe. Would it stop me from getting the phone? No! It's just disappointing that a little more effort wasn't put into making this supposedly special phone a little more "special", that's all...

The D1/D2 and the DX all just look like big hunks of plastic, steel, and glass. The iPhone looks like a smaller hunk of plastic though.

How would you recommend they make it "special", put an ugly red back with a camera eye on it?

I wished that the Bionic Looked Like this concept!!

So. Verizon has delayed the Thunderbolt AGAIN, saying it'll be released "end of Q2 2011". I think the Bionic just upped its expected sales figures, no?

That is, unless the Bionic faces similar delays.

Just to clarify, Verizon hasn't delayed anything. All of the "delays" are on the manufacturer's side, HTC. Verizon has never posted dates of release for the Thunderbolt, just that it would be the first half of the year and, because HTC said it would be ready in time, that it would be the first 4g phone released for the network (which has also been revised to "one of the first.") Verizon has said "coming soon" which has been annoying, but smart on their part. Best Buy made the dumb move to put the phone in their ad and take PRE-ORDERS which many people took as an indicater of release. All of the dates for the Tbolt were rumored anyway, it never had a solid, confirmed release date.

While what you say is strictly true, that Verizon purposefully never gave a release date, it is quite clear they intended to release the phone very soon. Think about how Thunderbolt ads saturated TV and the internet. Verizon would never have done that if they knew the Tbolt was coming out June/July-ish, and I'm sure they regret it.

It's been delayed past their desired release date, despite the lack of a specific day given to the public.

I doubt they regret it, but I do agree with the rest of what you say. My point is that it isn't Verizon's fault that HTC is having issues with the Tbolt's firmware. I want 4g as much as the next person here and I hate having to wait for it. I would just place blame where blame is due. I think of it as a blessing in disguise because now it isn't that much longer for the Bionic!

I really couldn't care less what it looks like... I'm more about what's happening on the screen and how quickly it gets done. As with many of these phones, an increase in style is a decrease in durability, so performance always wins in my book.

Personally, I see this as a downgrade from the actual Bionic. It doesn't look edgier, it looks... clunky-er. In fact, I would've guessed this was an original Droid concept if I had been unaware.

Despite looking more attractive, more metal is bad. The metal parts of my Droid are the ones I like the least: burning hot after a day in the car, freezing cold in the winter. Less grippy while holding the phone than a rubberized surface, especially on the edges where it's usually held while talking.

I've always preferred "understated" to "flashy". Phones are like car interiors; the more glossy, chromed, silver-trimmed bits there are, the cheaper it looks.
