Motorola Droid Case Reviews

orGSD, what are the differences between the two Waterfield slip cases? I really like the look of the patterned case but the only one available on the website is the plain black slip case. I have been debating between the Sena ultraslim and this case. Obviously the Sena being twice the price with a discount is a huge factor but the leather looks sooo slick and rich.
Sorry I didn't notice your reply and thus failed to answer. What gardobus said is 100% correct. Patterning is a mesh type stretchy fabric for the pocket. I got one with and one without the pocket. Both are in use on different Milestones. I like the one with pocket more at the moment I think, even though I am not using the pocket. It does not really add to the thickness, but it is there if I need it.
If you never plan on using the pocket however I would save the $4, put it towards buying a second one as a spare if you loose it or leave it laying around somewhere. Also there is a simplistic elegance about the one with no pocket.

Happy New Year everyone!

Cheers,

orGSD

Billyk: I have not used the following case personally but it is a Motorola OEM case designed specifically for this phone. The video review does not show a lot about it, however it does appear to match your criteria with the exception of the closing mechanism. It uses elastic.

Another option is the D2 Customizable one off eBay:
D2 Custom-Made Leather case for Motorola Droid A855 - eBay (item 370294299023 end time Dec-21-09 01:57:44 PST)
It offers a few closing options which are neither magnetic nor velcro. They unfortunately have not been able to test the magnet placement to see if it triggers the dock mode and recommended the snaps. They are responsive if you have any questions. Also it appears that you cannot charge it within this case. That being said you can fully customize all other aspects of it.

Cheers,

orGSD

orGSD - Thanks! The Moto case looks interesting...

Waterfield UltraSuede ( Droid Suede Jacket - Droid Sleeve - Droid Case - Milestone Sleeve - Milestone Case - Slim Droid Case - Droid Pouch - Droid Soft Case - Ultrasuede - WaterField Designs Droid Suede Jacket )
Pros:

  • Very soft in and out
  • Optional stretchy mesh pocket
  • Very slim, keeps your device slim
  • Reasonably priced for what you get
  • Protects from keys and miscellaneous pocket or light purse contents
  • Good fit while still allowing easy removal

Cons:

  • Slim, will not protect from drops or other tougher abuse

Conclusion:
This is one case I would highly recommend if a slim sleeve suits your needs. It seems well made, is pleasant on the fingers, phone and eyes. It is kind of like those silky Oakley sleeves but slightly stiffer and thicker. It will keep the shape and does not have a drawstring. Another, perhaps less important to some, factor is that the shop owner listened to feedback complaining about the shipping costs and came up with a reduced cost solution. Also the product is US made for those who care about such things.
I ordered one of these guys and it came in yesterday. I got it in about 3 days from when I ordered it and that was using the cheap $2 shipping. I actually ordered two (one for a friend) and the shipping was still $2. I'm really impressed with the quality of the case. It is definitely thin but still thick enough to protect from scratches, dirt, light dings, etc. In a fall it wouldn't do much if it landed screen down but since the phone is such a beast anyway, they survive falls pretty well and this will keep it unscratched. I like how the whole thing slides into my pocket with no problem and doesn't stick to my pocket either like the BodyGlove and rubber cases.

Overall I'm loving the case so far and highly recommend it if a sleeve is what you want and you don't need anything really tough.

I've been using a laptop bag and interior sleeve case from Waterfield for several years. Their stuff is generally priced at a premium, but you definitely get what you pay for. After many, many trips and much, much abuse their laptop bag still looks virtually new.

They're also good folks and have superb customer service.

(No other connection to these folks, just a very satisfied customer.)

If you get a hard case and have to take the back off to charge it daily seems to me that case won't fit as snug and tight as it did when new. I like things that are simple but does it purpose. Guess what I'm saying is depends on how you use the phone or if your hard on it. Several factors but boils down to the individual. Sorry my two cents.

PDAir Aluminum Case Out for Droid

I'm waiting on a Sena case (taking forever to get here, USPS I guess), but in the interim, I see that PDAir has an Aluminum case out, doesn't look too bad:

(also comes in black, which might be more in keeping with the Droid original color scheme)

and they have a video demo up:

Looks like they handle the sliding keyboard by just opening the case up, right side hinged. As near as I can figure, it has holes in all the right places, although I'm not too sure about the speaker, as that's covered up a bit (some other cases have a smaller opening, maybe that would have been better), but probably still works.

Being Al, I would guess that the protection is going to be pretty good, excepting of course the screen, which given the mounting on the back for the clip, would be pretty exposed if you wore this on a belt. Still, in a pocket, screen inward, probably about as protective as you're going to get.

This is the first metal case I've seen for the Droid, so progress is being made.

I have the following cases:

1. Cellet Bergam
2. Sena Elegea (not sure about spelling but one that is for ipod)
3. Waterfield Designs Pouch

I like the Sena best for wearing it on my hip and the Waterfield pouch for when I carry it in my pocket. The Sena is tight at first but I crammed it full of stuff to stretch it and put conditioner on it for a day. Fits perfect. The Bergam case is nice but a little tighter than the Sena Case.

Innocase and Invisibleshield

I have purchased the Innocase Fits great. Also went to Best Buy Mobile store and got the Invisibleshield for the screen They installed it for me and told me to not put it in my pocket for 12 to 24 hours until it dries They used some kind of spray stuff. The Shield has a great feel to it and it has a life time warranty. I will post some thing in a week to let everybody know how it all works out. I chose both these as a result of what I read here and other misc websites. So far I love the Droid I have had it for about 3 weeks. I came from a iPhone and AT&T . Verizon gave me 30 days to try it out. I am sold Love the Android OS and I like the Verizon Network Much faster all around and have not dropped a call yet. I live in Kenosha WI about 30 miles outside Milwaukee and 45 miles fro Chicago IL I just got plain bored with the iPhone and its limitations

I just received a sleeve I ordered off Amazon and its not as snug as I hoped. I feel like the phone could slip out of the sleeve if I'm not very careful. Anyone with the sena case have a similar fear or does the phone fit snug enough that it wouldn't slide out?

I have the Sena Elegea and it is very snug with the droid but comes out easy when pulled. If you are asking about the Sena pouch for droid then I cannot comment other than to say Sena usually fits tight enough so it will not fall out. I have the waterfield design pouch and it is snug but will fall out if you turn it upside down and hold by the bottom.

Can anyone here comment on the PDair Leather Case for Motorola Droid Milestone - Flip Type (Black) by PDair - PDair.com?

I am thinking about getting it, but I am unsure about the plastic cover that goes over the slide-out keyboard. Does it make typing on it harder/less responsive? Also, is the clip magnetic, and if it is, does it cause the Droid to go into docking mode?

For the price I would go with the Sena Elegea which is made for the iphone but fits the droid perfectly. I have one and it is the best I have looked at and I have seen a dozen or so in person and more online. The sena belt clip is low profile so it does not stick out on your hip like the one above looks like it could.

I have two pouches and two holsters and I like the Sena best if you want to version that is a holster and the waterfield is a great protector if you carry in your pocket.

Oh geez. Totally OT, but that person in the video does not know how to use a Droid. Watching it gave me secondhand embarrassment for them. :/

To be more on topic - I'm not a fan of having to open the case to get to the physical keyboard... Even if I don't use it that often.

if the aluminum case is anything like the one I had for the Storm, the hinge opens too easily. The phone easily falls out, and forget about even a minor fall.

i just ordered this online: PDair Black Leather Vertical Pouch for Motorola Droid

it looks nicer than the sena case to me (and not on backorder). will return for a review in the week.

I like the idea of a vertical pouch belt clip with naked Droid and will be interested to see how this works out. I wonder if the lack of a flap to secure it is going to be a problem or not, or whether it is tight enough to hold it securely. I am worried about the thing falling out when I bend over and smashing on the ground. Right now I am using am elcheapo neoprene case from Fry's made by Cellet for a blackberry which does not fit right but does the job.

Also considering the Seido case/holster but I really like the car mount which would be incompatible.

I purchased the PDair Vertical Pouch without the clip and was slightly disappointed. It added much more bulk than I anticipated. I intended to just slip it in my pants pocket, and while it is possible, it is highly uncomfortable. If you are to purchase this, I would recommend one with the belt clip. Its not really intended to be placed in your jeans pockets (however you can put it in your jacket pockets). The case overall is made of very soft leather. You don't have to worry about it falling out of the pouch. The two straps gives it a tight hold; often too tight a hold. To be honest, I can't imagine not pulling the whole case from your belt while trying to remove your phone from it (it is THAT snug). Anyway, I'm going to return it and order the SENA case. I would give it a 3.5/5.
