Name an App that Justifys a $30 data plan

All ya'll aren't even address the question.
Putting me on blast like I'm saying this phone ain't worth it.

Please, I will say again.... It IS NOT about the money, It is about The use I can get from this phone now I have the abilities it does!!!

DANG!
So tell me what I can get that maybe I don't know!

I got my phone loaded.... Widgets everywhere
I'm a huge sports and news buff, so I got my phone stacked with streaming news and info....

Get off
it doesn't seem like you read the responses very well, or at least you're not getting it. what, if anything, justifies having a computer connected to the internet at all?

the DROID is a cloud phone, meaning it was designed to exist under Google online. without internet access, you negate this effect and essentially overpay for a "dumb" phone. over 90% of the features and ability of the phone require use of a data connection. the $30 plan just happens to be the "right" plan that is required for data usage on the DROID. without it, you will be able to use your phone as a phone, and that's about it.

WoW, just WoW!
I quote myself, "It is about The use I can get from this phone now I have the abilities it does!!!"
^^^^ I realize there are millions of things I can now do on my phone now that I have this plan/access. I don't need ignorant people coming in and saying "If you need reasons you don't need this phone"
^ Please, there are 12 year olds with these phones that don't need these phone. Get off!

So, let me once again ask, once again, for some productive responses...

myself, I use Widgets: SportsTap, Fox Sports, Live Scores, and have 2 RSS widget boxes streaming Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks news.
Then on my other side home screen I have BBC news, CNN news, and Fox News streaming news and Apps: USA Today, AP mobile, BBC News, and NPR... I am constantly contected to my Sports and News... And THAT my friends is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

please tone your response down and restate your question.

your late response to the thread seemed to indicate that you were still asking for an application that would justify the change to your plan that would increase your billing by $30.

we're all here to help, so if you would kindly phrase your question in a manner that is less rude and more to the point, we would all like to help you.

thanks!

I would pay the $30 per month just for all the customizations to things like sms, screens, ringtones, call firewalls etc that we get for free on top of unlimited internet and email that we have to pay for. I couldn't imagine the dr waiting room or dmv without internet in my pocket

Threads like this always seem pointless to me. They come across as "Tell me why I should be interested in X".

A more useful approach IMO would be "I am interested in X, Y and Z. How would the Droid benefit me?" Picking any product in life is a matter of finding the option that suits you best. General polling doesn't mean much unless someone responding to your thread happens to have the same needs/wants as you.

I mean, take jstrick5's post above as an example. That's great if you have an Exchange account (I do) but irrelevant if you don't. I guess, in short, I'm saying don't use a shotgun to swat a fly. This thread has 7 pages and most of it probably doesn't matter to the OP.

Other interesting ways to use the $30 web on your phone besides sports and news:

ShopSavvy or Barcode Reader - comparison shop on the dime while you are out.

NewsRob or some other RSSReader of your choice - not just for news you know. I subscribe to deal sites like slickdeals.net, passwird.com, dealnews.com and having the deals when away from computer is huge sometimes. example is a deal that is a one day deal or a hot deal that sells out quick. If I am out all day and not at a computer, i may not see a deal until I get home and check, or maybe the next day if i come in late, and it might be too late because maybe the deal was a one day deal or it just old out.

Some games also have contests and play online with others. I don't do this myself, but I know there are some.

Google Maps, Where, Yelp - if you travel at all these are so useful. We do a lot of road trips for tournaments and its nice to know what restaurants are around, get access to reviews and such, and directions on how to get there. Our days of "driving around" to see what is around are gone.

And kind of off topic, those that are saying a smartphone isn't for someone if they aren't going to utilize the web on it, that is just silly to say. These phones combine more than just internet and phone. The ability to have contacts and calendar synced with a computer (not through a cloud, but just a good old usb cable) is huge--this is why i bought my first smart phone all those years ago. I didn't care about web back then--i cared about not entering information in multiple places (work pc, home pc, cell phone, pda). I cared about being able to edit documents and spreadsheets on the go. And I still care about those things today. My husband has a $50 omnia and cusses every month about his $30 bill because all he wants to be able to do is edit his work documents on the go, have his mp3 player and phone as one device so he doesn't have to carry two, and not have to enter pim information in multiple places. He has been through 2 iterations of smart phone without a data plan and only has it now because verizon forces him to.

I dont want to sound rude or anything , but , if that was a problem or you were not to thrilled about that extra charge on your phone bill , well then why did you buy it ? Now unfortunately you are stuck with it for 1 or 2 years depending on your contract. I wished that these cell phone companys allow you the decision to either take the data plan or not.........it is bologna that you are required to have that data plan.

as the OP has said i think 3 times now, he's not angry about the plan and it's not a problem, he is just trying to find more ways to use the data plan beyond the things is already using it for.

as for my husband, he isn't thrilled, but he's been using a smartphone for years, long before companies forced the data plan on people.

Did I read that correctly ? He isnt thrilled ? Hmmmm......does he not like the phone ? What is he not thrilled about ?

Just like having tiered texting plans, some people think that they should be offered a tiered data plan. One for people who don't need UNLIMITED data, maybe even less than a GB of data per month. Those types of users a lot of times think that they shouldn't have to be on the same plan as someone who is using 10 Gigs a month. I agree to a certain extent, but I love my unlimited plan.

my husband has an omnia. he got it for $50 when it came out (he was due to upgrage from his treo). he didn't get an expensive smart phone because that one does all he needs it to do. he loves his phone. he doesn't like being forced to have a data plan because he doesn't use his smartphone for the internet because yes there are uses for a smart phone besides facebook all day. he uses his phone for consolidating all of his email contacts, cell phone contacts, and address book in one place along with editting his work documents (word, excel). His information is easily synced to outlook when he docks his phone either at home or at work with a good old usb cable and activesync. He doesnt need email on his hip because he is at a computer all day. He was just fine using his data sparingly (and per megabyte) on those off occasions when he felt the need.

So no he isn't thrilled, but he was years into using a smartphone before verizon started forcing folks to have data plans so he sucks it up and has the plan even though he doens't use the data much at all.

My husband would definitely benefit from tiered pricing.

I would consider a tiered plan because I'm a rather practical person. I love my unlimited, because I have it, but I acknowledge I don't NEED it. I need food, water, and shelter. I LIKE unlimited data. Unlimited data is $360 a year, $720 in the 2 years I own the phone. If I could cut that in half, even though I LIKE the unlimited data, it would be something I might consider because I like to cut the fat an use the money elsewhere.

Since loading Shazam, I'm in agreement that it's well worth the $30 per month. Being able to find the artist, title of a song or the album is priceless. I attribute this to being a time saver, and as such figure my time is worth something! Maybe minimum wage at times.. ;)

Any app that saves me time I feel justifies the monthly fee. In business - time is money.

On that note - can I get paid for all the dozens of hours spent weekly here on the Droidforum? :) Heck - those hours have shown me invaluable time saving tips, advice, resources, etc. Yea - I'd pay $30 membership dues here! As well as the data fee to VZW. cuskit

The world wide web and access to an infinite amount of data at the drop of a dime. Thats what the data plan is for. Apps are just icing on the cake and have nothing to do with the data plan.
