New Findings and Fixes thread for Droid 2.0.1 OTA updates

I did the manual update, took a picture to try out the camera and when I went to open "Gallery" from the desktop I got the message "App Not Installed", I put the Gallery in the Trash and then reinstalled it and it worked just fine.

Is is just me or does the contacts seem too dark sometimes?
I have my brightness set on "auto" and if I'm around a bright window the numbers are just too hard to read.
That must be part of the battery saving logic they increased.

Like it doesn't brighten well enough... I know there is the new power widget but it takes up too much room and so don't like it....

I may have to go off of auto mode.

-------------------- EDIT
Nevermind... somehow my "auto" got unchecked and the slider was all the way to the left.... thats strange because I normally keep it all the way to the right at full brightness and then run it on auto..... somehow it got set completely backwards?

I "was" playing with the app called "droidlight".. maybe that did it.
But after playing with it some more, I can't recreate the problem.

i have noticed w/ the update, that when you turn the screen on, it takes longer to display the screen. There is a definite delay. I checked it w/ my sisters droid (2.0) and mine (2.0.1). So that is kind of a bummer.

Does it fix the rather irksome bug that the gmail app won't display embedded pictures?

I have no porblems with imbedded pics in Gmail and I am still on Android 2.0.

Are you using the gmail app or the e-mail app? I get a border where the pic size is, with a tiny blue ? in the middle. If I browse to the mobile gmail web page, it shows us just fine. I know other people have mentioned the same problem.

Yes, everybody has this same issue. It is not a one person has it another doesn't. If you say you don't have this issue then you are not actually looking at the same thing. It is actually not embedded but rather a way of attaching an image to the email. If someone using, say Outlook, types a new email and then goes into the body of the email and then goes up to the top and selects insert picture, select the picture and then sends this to a gmail account, the Droid (or any Android OS in general) will only give you a small box with a question mark in it. This has been happening since G1 and this update did not fix it. Emails you get from online vendors etc show the images in the body, but that is different. Again....nobody is able to see this type of image attachment (usually referred to as embedded although technically not correct) on any Android phone. You can see it fine from your actual gmail via the browser.

Has anyone noticed that the Google Search widget that is displayed under the time has moved down a cm. You can't put it at the top anymore? It messed up a nice droid wallpaper that took forever to make and was centered perfect. Now with that widget, being down a cm it looks weird. Anyone else notice this or how to fix it?

Thy did this because it was too easy to activate the notification bar with the Google search bar so close to it.

The Google Search widget serves no purpose IMO anyway. Just a waste of screen space. You can hit the search button at the bottom right and do the same exact thing. Or, long-press it to voice search.

+1... although I do understand it's personal taste and if you like the Search Bar Widget then go for it but there is a soft key permanently attached to the bottom of the phone... just seems redundant.

So I just noticed something that I think came from the update. If you use Better Keyboard or any other keyboard replacement app, it keeps the default keyboard on even when you turn the replacement on.

I think it makes the replacement keyboard slow up a bit.

My scrolling on the browser and facebook seems to be WORSE than it was. VERY choppy.

I'm shocked more people aren't talking about this. This is a MAJOR problem and a huge step backwards. I hope this is brought to light and fixed immediately.

Maybe you just need to reboot....

I tried the old browser and its fine..... If you use dolphin browser you will like it better... has pinch zoom and better interface.

Go try and visit droidforums.net and tell me if you get hardcore scroll lag. I do with both the native browser and Dolphin. And yes, I have rebooted several times since the update. Still get the insane scroll lag. :(

Ok, this may of already been addressed, but I'm short for time. I have the update on my phone.

I went to log into facebook, and I chose to sync with existing contacts, and now all of my contact except my 4 gmail contacts are GONE! someone help!!!!

I'm not

I am sorry but I am on here on my mobile and don'tr see any lag. I have tried with both WIFI and 3G. Still nothing. Maybe you have something else running causing it on your device :icon_eek:

There is a tremendous amount of info on that page.. but once it loads, it scrolls fine on either browser. As fast or slow as I want to scroll.

But dolphin browser loads faster.

Battery life seems to have improved like they had promised. I had fully charged my batter before going to bed and about 9 hours later after i woke up my battery is still at 100%. Before it used to go down to 90%, but waking up and seeing it at 100% was a great surprise.
