New Gameloft 3D Games!

Had a really good experience with Gameloft support. Was unable to install the APK for Sandstorm and successfully run it (got a DRM error everytime) on Froyo, after having previously used it on Cyanogenmod 5.0.7.1; so I emailed them.

"Had to do a data wipe on my phone, thus necessitating a re-install. Re-installing APK originally downloaded results in a "This is not an original copy of Modern Combat: Sandstorm" error message. Redownloading from original SMS link and reinstalling causes the same issue. The only way I can get the game to run is by placing my phone into "Airplane Mode" - however, I cannot play online multiplayer this way.

Having to perform an occasional data wipe is a part of owning any smartphone; why is there no easy way to reinstall an app that I paid good money for? Please advise as to what I should do (repurchasing the game is not a valid option in my eyes, i've already paid for it). I had read rumors online that Gameloft was making it easier for Android owners to redownload apps, yet I don't see any easy way to do this."

A couple of hours later, I received a very nice personalized email from a support person at Gameloft, thanking me for my patience with their Android HD games issues; telling me that the SMS had been resent with an up to date link. I downloaded it, and it works great. It would seem the rumors of them changing their DRM stance on Android are true, as my request was met with no resistance at all. I now feel that i've got my $4.99 worth from this game.

Thats good to hear. I got NOVA after hearing about their change in stance on reinstallation. They really make some good games but their methods in distribution need improvment. Its good to see them making some progress on that front because they have some of the coolest looking android games! NOVA is pretty dang cool, by the way. Its works pretty well as can be expected without hard key support. Sometimes it gets confused when i'm moving when im trying to look around and actually move me backward when i'm pushing forward on the virtual stick and swiping to look downward. Other then that, it seems to work pretty well

Man can anyone help me out. These games are awesome. So far I have bought Nova, Modern Combat, Lets golf, and dungeon hunter twice. I am running latest froyo 2.2 rls on Motorola droid rooted of course. Dungeon hunter will not work. I have done everything. It installs, launches, downloads what it needs wifi, then tries to launch turns black then back to launcher screen? any help. Ive tried airplane mode, older version on usenet and no luck. this is the one game I wanted to play. Especially after seeing how impressive the others are!!!

did you install DH main app on SD or phone memory ? if you installed it into sd maybe DH haves some probs with it. try the phone memory then (for main app not additional data).

Now that I have almost completed NOVA (everything except last boss), here is my review:

7/10.

Bump that up to a 9 or 10 compared to other cell phone games. However, in comparison to ds or psp games there are a few weaknesses. First, collision detection is off. A bunch of times I could see an enemy when I was in partial cover but my gunfire would not hit the enemy. The shots would hit the object I was hiding behind when I had clearly targeted an enemy. Also, the frame rate suffers on a Motorola Droid running Android 2.1 at stock speed (hopefully 2.2 will fix this). I found the touch screen controls to be lacking. Perhaps first person shooters are not meant to be played on a touch screen device.

Plusses: amazing visuals, sounds, and music for a handheld game. Good storyline, voice acting, and gameplay. It is a halo clone and that is a good game to emulate.

Overall a worthy purchase for a cheap price of $5 (cheap in comparison to ds and psp games). Recommended.

Really happy with both Asphalt and Hero of Sparta, but like biggles mentioned i'm having some slight issues with the control scheme... this is my first smartphone though, and i'm sure it will take some getting used to.

Also taken aback by the amount of slowdown in Hero of Sparta -- can anyone [with a rooted, overclocked 2.1 or 2.2] let us know if things are set to improve when 2.2 officially rolls out?

If not with 2.2 then maybe i'll go ahead and root my droid to overclock it.

Was about to get Dungeon Hunter before i saw so many people having problems with it... hope that gets sorted quickly for you. I'm a diablo fiend :]

Whats wrong with dungeon hunter? runs fine on my moto droid? OC it to at least 800mhz and it runs great, even better on 2.2.

I'll give sparta a test for ya.

[...]Whats wrong with dungeon hunter? runs fine on my moto droid? [...]

That was the question ;-)

A few people had problem with FC´s when starting the game.

I solved the problem, just ask a friend with a working copy of Dungeon Hunter for his DATA Files (sd/gameloft/data/)

the data files on the gameloft server seem to be corrupt at the moment

I purchased Dungeon Hunter this weekend and it does not work on the moto droid. I get a black screen when trying to open the program, then it goes back to the android desktop. I have sent email and phoned gameloft and they cannot fix it yet. They sent me an sms with a new link to the game but that did not work either. So, I would recommend avoiding Dungeon Hunter until they get this fixed. Again, I downloaded NOVA and it installed and ran fine (see my review earlier in this thread).

Thanks for that SpykeZ - let me know how it goes. It's not unplayable overall but during higher poly scenes it drops to probably 10fps, which kinda kills the excitement.
