Ok I did this rom and root now here is my ?. I am new to all this so first what can rooting do for me besides backup and tethering? How do u delete bloatware? Second now that i have 2.2 froyo what if the update or other updates come to my phone? Should i download anymore updates at all or what?

If you don't want the bloatware you can install the debloated version in the OP. Otherwise you can use TitaniumBackup to freeze the apps you don't want.
Since you have cwmrecovery you will need to wait for the devs to put out a rooted version of any future OTA update. Often it will be available before it ever gets pushed to your phone

Total noob here. I have a question. Will using this process wipe out everything on the sd card, or can I use this process with a clean memory card and then after everything is done can I put my old one back in to access my saved pictures, etc?

Hey Tapout, I am rooted now and have installed the other CWM you gave me so I could backup my previous (stock) ROM. Do you backup all your apps or are they some that you ignore, or are there some that you better make sure you backup. Now when I am done and want to install the new CWM recovery can I just put the new update.zip on the SD card and then boot into recovery mode and boot that zip? Just a couple of questions. Just trying to dot my i's and cross my t's before I move on. Thanks for the patience.

It won't affect anything on your sd card, you will lose all contact info and stuff like that.

Correct...your sd card is unaffected....it wipes data/cache and dalvik cache on the phone itself....google will resync your contacts, apps etc after sign in

So i tried this download.I have the zip update on phone,selected which 2.2 i wanted,got odin,put the file on odin and when i go to start after everything is plugged in,i get a fail message right away.Anyone have an idea what i did wrong?thanks.

I decided to go for it. I downloaded the EB01SC24_DXC.tar.rar file from the link, extracted with winrar (right click, extract here) and now have 2 files in my download folder, EB01SC24_DXC.rar 139,055 KB file size and EB01SC24_DXC.rar.md5 353,291 KB size. What is an .md5 file and/or should I be using something other than WinRAR to extract or which is the one I want to flash?
