First of all, Tapout, you are full of WIN! Nice and easy..love it!

Ok, so a couple of minor things I am seeing (or haven't seen in this thread) that spelled out, might make it just a LITTLE easier on folks. (the new new folks)

1. The instructions do mention putting the "update.zip" onto the SD card, but it's not mentioned that people need to flash that to get the new CWM (Clockwork Mod). I have seen posts with people asking why it boots into Samsung recovery. The original posts makes it seem (to those who dont know better) that CWM will be all installed and ready to go once they flash with odin and is all-in-one.

For those that are unsure, here is what you need to do:

**AFTER FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS IN ORIGINAL POST**

1. Power down Phone.
2. Restart into Recovery (Hold both volume buttons and power at same time, release power button once you see Samsung logo, release volume keys once you see blue text)
3. Using volume keys, select Apply "update.zip" and press the Home Soft Key
4. It should automatically convert to Red CWM.
5. You are done, select reboot phone.

2. Those of you concerned about losing apps and app data, might I recommend Titanium Backup Pro (yes, you will have to buy it, but COMPLETELY worth it if you plan on doing this a bit). You can backup all apps/app data and restore them after anything you do that wipes your phone. I HIGHLY recommend it as it will be the only thing you need to re-download from the market, then restore all app data. YOU MUST BE ROOTED FIRST THOUGH. If you have never rooted your phone, start here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...ent/79811-newbie-guide-rooting-fascinate.html

No one has made the suggestion, just been telling people they will lose all app data when that doesn't have to be the case.

I hope this helps at all. Just trying to make it easier on those who come here and are new.

Thanks again Tapout.

Thanks...just doing what I can....

It does install the Red modded CWM but for some reasons not all phones take it as well as others, mine for example still will boot into the blue stock recovery on occasion and other times straight to red recovery...its wierd lol
But yes the update.zip is basically just a failsafe in case you end up in stock recovery....I'll add that to the OP

Thanks again

So do u download titanium backup first before rooted or after

Sorry, was at lunch and was thinking I should clarify that a little...

1. Do the basic Root using the link I gave to the thread in these forums
2. Download Titanium Backup Pro (make sure to purchase the licensed version)
3. Run a backup (I do a batch operation of all apps and user data)
4. THEN follow the instructions in the first post of this thread.

This is meant for those that do not want to lose your data for apps. You WILL STILL have to resync contacts and such through gmail. If you are not using Gmail to sync contact data...then might I suggest getting a different phone. :P (kidding)

Tapout didn't actually miss anything, as perhaps my previous thread might have implied. He has actually put together a very useful way to do it. So HUGE thanks to him for sure!!

I am merely trying to make the process a slight bit easier :)

Shdowman.. so if I read all this information correctly..I would run a backup only if I cared to..(only have a stock based Fascinate with no data to worry about) but what did you mean about contacts.. will the backup I do with the verizon process be enuff to get my phone contacts back on my "froyo" based setup after all this?? That is the only contacts I have currently on my phone and retyping them would be a killer..

Thanks for all this info.. just about ready to make the leap

All your contacts should be saved to your gmail account automatically. After you make the "leap", you will have to enter in your gmail address like you did when you first got the phone. Once it syncs, all your contacts will be back in your phone. (the whole beauty of android being google based)

Best of luck, and let us know how it turns out for ya!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums and am hoping someone can help me get this froyo leak. I have everything download and saved to sd card., I think everything is ready to go. But when I launch odin, connect phone and click on pda and then click on the file when I hit start it automatically says 'All threads completed. (succeed 0/failed 0)' and nothing is happening. Any suggestions on where I'm going wrong?? Thanks in advance for any help.
