Sorry, was at lunch and was thinking I should clarify that a little...
Tapout didn't actually miss anything, as perhaps my previous thread might have implied. He has actually put together a very useful way to do it. So HUGE thanks to him for sure!!
I am merely trying to make the process a slight bit easier
Shdowman.. so if I read all this information correctly..I would run a backup only if I cared to..(only have a stock based Fascinate with no data to worry about) but what did you mean about contacts.. will the backup I do with the verizon process be enuff to get my phone contacts back on my "froyo" based setup after all this?? That is the only contacts I have currently on my phone and retyping them would be a killer..
Thanks for all this info.. just about ready to make the leap
Don J
All your contacts should be saved to your gmail account automatically. After you make the "leap", you will have to enter in your gmail address like you did when you first got the phone. Once it syncs, all your contacts will be back in your phone. (the whole beauty of android being google based)
Best of luck, and let us know how it turns out for ya!
I want to root, but I can't even see my SD card contents after I install Samsung drivers. Did last months update from verizon make the contents of SD unreadable? Assuming the drivers are installed correctly, could I proceed by putting the SD in pc and dragging update file there?
Do u have to unmount the sd carf to b able to stay connected to the comp. Tapout if u read this I need your help pls..

Yes u can do it that way or try rebooting your pc with the phone plugged in, make sure USB debugging is checked and USB mass storage mode is turned on on the phone

that means your PC is seeing your phone as a CD drive instead of mass storage...did you reboot your computer with your phone plugged inI want to root, but I can't even see my SD card contents after I install Samsung drivers. It would appear to me that Verizon has made it now that you can not have USB debugging and USB mass storage selected at the same time. All I can see on my SD card when I can briefly see it is 4 files or folders; ToolLauncher-bootstrap, Samsung_mobile_USB_Driver, Autorun, and Model name.
Yes I did reboot with the phone plugged into the pc. Debugging and mass storage were enabled. When rebooted phone will not show up in my computer at all untill I unplug USB and plug back in. Then I only "see"" phone for a few swconds with the previously mentioned folders/files.that means your PC is seeing your phone as a CD drive instead of mass storage...did you reboot your computer with your phone plugged inYes u can do it that way or try rebooting your pc with the phone plugged in, make sure USB debugging is checked and USB mass storage mode is turned on on the phone

At one point you said to PM you when ready. I am confident that you could get me through this root, but I just wanted you to be aware of the driver issue. After root it may not even be an issue.
