dont change the file extension, extract it to your desktop...it will extract the .tar.md5 file you need out of the .rarPut my mind at rest! I have Odin on the PC, the flavor of Froyo I want (superclean), had to change the file extension so Odin could see it (removed .rar) update zip on sd card, photos backed up on PC, instructions printed out( with a good understanding of them) I think I'm good to go. Mainly wondering about changing the file ext. That okay?

Thank you very much!!!!
what guide are you following to root?Yes I did reboot with the phone plugged into the pc. Debugging and mass storage were enabled. When rebooted phone will not show up in my computer at all untill I unplug USB and plug back in. Then I only "see"" phone for a few swconds with the previously mentioned folders/files.that means your PC is seeing your phone as a CD drive instead of mass storage...did you reboot your computer with your phone plugged in
At one point you said to PM you when ready. I am confident that you could get me through this root, but I just wanted you to be aware of the driver issue. After root it may not even be an issue.
in menu/settings/usb settings do you have it set to ask on connection?
if not def try that...
also try a different USB cable if you arent using the one that came with the phone, or even a diff usb port on the PC...
so the update.zip is on the root of sd card or are all those downloaded files on your pc?what guide are you following to root?Yes I did reboot with the phone plugged into the pc. I did try the ask on connection option but the results were the same. Ditto for original and other usb cable. My intention was to use the root method at the beginning of this thread. I hve down loaded odin, update.zip, superclean tar.
good to hear...dont change the file extension, extract it to your desktop...it will extract the .tar.md5 file you need out of the .rar
Thanks Tapout, that didn't seem right. I had to get a program to unzip a rar. Couldn't extract it before. Life is good again!
