OFFICIAL: 2.1 to release this week on the Motorola Droid

Does anyone know if this only means Moto is releasing it to Verizon? Isnt it up to Verizon when and how to push updates to their phones?

A friend of mine says his girlfriend's brother's uncle works for Verizon and he says for sure the update will be pushed in mid-March.

Am I the only one that hated the 2.1 app drawer?

I was really looking forward to this feature, but once I got it on my phone using Sholes, I wasn't that impressed. Especially how it snaps to the lines of apps instead of scrolling smoothly. Makes it look laggy even if it isn't.

Will there be an all-nighter for tonight like there was for this update on 1/22?

Oh man, that was a long, rough, disappointing night. I normally don't get worked up about stuff like this, but I was pretty mad after staying up all night and still going to work the next day haha.

Good grief. There's only one thing I'd stay up all night for... well at my age I don't know of anything I'd stay up all night for.

This may be nothing, but @motomobile on twitter had 2 tweets confirming 2.1 on the Droid this week, but about an hour or so ago they were both removed/deleted from the time line. It's probably nothing but it is also suspicious

+1 on the 3D apparently drawer. Loved the way it "flew" in and out, hated the way it scrolled. Also did like the 5 home screens and method for navigating them. Too many FCs though for my liking. Back to stock.

Imo gde is way to laggy compared to the stock homescreen. Even the new 2.1 launcher update is smoother then gde. Just wish the launcher 2.1 would work in landscape. I guess the other new features are cool, but with multitouch being added will they add it to the virtual keyboard. I hope for this more than anything.

Wow! I have been using GDE for weeks and NEVER have a lag problem. It is smooth as silk. Cannot do without GDE.

Don't know, but this whole thing is fishy. I wouldn't be surprised if they backed off this weeks launch

So, no fix for Bluetooth. No TRUE (no need to touch the phone) handsfree voice dialing.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think that was ever in the discussion. I bought my Droid on day one and have been asking and asking about that very same issue. I may as well been talking to the wall.

You guys are absolutely right about true hands-free dialing.

What makes me nervous about this issue is that the whole idea of dealing with voice commands locally on the phone is fundamentally at odds with Google's grand scheme of transmitting voice commands to servers, recognizing it there, and sending it back to the phone. I am not an engineer, and I hope I am wrong about this.

I posted this Sunday in regards to releasing this month. I'm not saying it won't come this week. Everyone knows VZW controls these things : )

If it came sooner, someone could say that the decided to step it up...

Put it this way. If it comes sooner, which is definitely a possibility, they DID NOT decide to push it up. The question is will they get it and then release it quickly. We won't see it before the 12th of this month.
