OFFICIAL: 2.1 to release this week on the Motorola Droid

This may be nothing, but @motomobile on twitter had 2 tweets confirming 2.1 on the Droid this week, but about an hour or so ago they were both removed/deleted from the time line. It's probably nothing but it is also suspicious

I posted this Sunday in regards to releasing this month. I'm not saying it won't come this week. Everyone knows VZW controls these things : )

If it came sooner, someone could say that the decided to step it up...

Put it this way. If it comes sooner, which is definitely a possibility, they DID NOT decide to push it up. The question is will they get it and then release it quickly. We won't see it before the 12th of this month.

Hello I work at wireless advocates (kiosk in costco) We were sent a bulletin today stating the Motorola Droid is is getting a "pushed" software update on Feb 10th
updates will include pinch and zoom web browsing,Speech to text voice recognition, enlarged virtual keyboard, 3d gallery-a whole new way to enjoy music photos and videos,weather channel widget, & enhanced music player. I contacted my verizon data consultant he said it will be a soft push like 2.0.1 some will receive it tomorrow and thru out the week. All new shipments will have 2.1 installed.

I un-rooted my Droid and I'm liking it with no force closes. The only thing I miss. Is Wifi - Tethering.

Back to stock after not having it for a long time, its actually seems faster haha. if this update doesn't bring what I think its bringing, Ill be getting a Nexus One when it comes to Verizon.

I think with all of the new phones coming out and the Droid and Nexus One supposedly being the top Android phones, each phone should be equivilant as far as operating system. There are more Moto Droid owners than Nexus One and we should have all of the goodies of 2.1 that N1 owners have. IF we do not have live wallpapers it will not be the end of the world. A ROM developer will find a way to create an update with it.

I just would think that running live wallpapers would bog down the device unnecessarily. I dunno about most people but sometimes I'll have Google Nav going with either the Music player or iHeartRadio and that in itself can be taxing.
