OFFICIAL: 2.1 to release this week on the Motorola Droid

Stopped by to see if there was any news on the OTA but it looks like the topic has changed to Google Buzz now? Hmm I wonder if they are talking about 2.1 in the official Google Buzz thread?
 
Really buzz is pretty cool I just hit a conversation not too far from a nexus user trying out buzz and a bunch of droiders and nexus users were commenting on it. It's a running thread. I thought very slick.
 
im actually kind of excited for the official update, i did the 2.1 manual update from this site, and it just seemed really glitchy, froze up and force closed quite a few apps from the market. hopefully everything will get fixed with the verizon update pushed to our phones later this week...
 
When someone with a N1 flashes you a live wallpaper, in a "look what my phone can do style" just pull out your qwerty keyboard.. Cause, google, is google, but moto stomps htc
 
ive read thru about 15 pages of the 50 lol... wondering if anyone has heard anything about the upgrade to more homescreens?.... i know in the past we have all talked and heard about going from 3 to 5.. anyone hear recent news about that
 
Interestingly Swype doesnt play with Buzz.... you have to use the Physical Keyboard. I haven't used it for a while. To my shock I was pretty fast on it and it was nice not having to correct errors or choose words. I may be using it more often.
 
Quick question... I bet I read it somewhere and with all the random topics here I am not sure where do start... but are we sure that 2.1 is coming out on the 10th? if so why?

We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later ...this week as well. Thanks sport. I saw the "this week" but I did not remember seeing the 10th. I'm not holding my breath for tonight... but it would be nice! Night all! I can finally go to bed with my psyc homework done!

I have heard people say it will and others say it wont have more screens.

Google's Android 2.1: How It'll Change Your Phone » Daemon News - Best Software Review This site says it will have 5 screens but it also says it will have live wallpapers and we know that isnt true. I didnt take the time to see what their source is. If you want more home screens just download the app Home++ from the market.

The source article merely talks about android 2.1 in the SDK so it does not necessarily mean that all phones will have these features
 
As someone who prefers mostly the stock apps, seems like this update could bring a lot of good things. Was just thinking the media player could be better today. If the speech to text recognition is any good that could be a HUGE deal. An enlarged stock keyboard is one thing i really wanted too so hope that is true as well.
 
I have the Media Player APK and it's not all that different. If they improve the speech to text that would be nice.
