I have the Media Player APK and it's not all that different. If they improve the speech to text that would be nice.

As someone who prefers mostly the stock apps, seems like this update could bring a lot of good things. Was just thinking the media player could be better today. If the speech to text recognition is any good that could be a HUGE deal. An enlarged stock keyboard is one thing i really wanted too so hope that is true as well.

any experience with the keyboard on 2.1?? much difference there?? this could make a big difference for me.

There was no APK for a keyboard so I have no idea. However since I use Swype I would never use the onscreen keyboard. I would assume use the physical.

I really don't dislike the stock keyboard at all. I never use a swype type keyboard is because i hate auto correction. Bothered me since the iphone came out and you would get a text from someone and it would make no sense. I can read through a type when it changes words it just gets annoying. So was just curious since if the virtual keyboard had just a tiny bit more spacing between letters i think it would be perfect for what i want.

hahaha... so i previously stated that i had unrooted in anticipation of the update. that didn't last long. about three hours after i did that the speed difference killed me. i rooted again and will wait for sholes to release any of the features of the actual update to me now!!

From what it looks like... if rooted users unroot and get the official 2.1 upgrade some things may happen.... such as:

1. Unable to root new update?
2. No more multi-touch in browser, map, gallery?
3. No wifi-tether or OC?

What I'm wondering is if you made a nandroid back up then reverted back to stock and got the 2.1 update, would you still have sprecovery since you are back to unrooted stock? Assuming that official 2.1 can't be rooted yet, doesn't that mean we'll be stuck with 2.1 until someone can root and put sprecovery back on the phone?

Although I have been reading up on rooting, doing the OC, I am a little intimidated by it all, a guy needs to know his limitations, I am thinking about purchasing the $5.00 Sholes thing and letting it do most of the work, sounds like a goo d program, sounds like Sholes is on top of it, I can get my feet wet in this Rooting/ OC thing and go from their, sounds better than waiting on the official 2.something. any input would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Dosent the droid already have speach to text?!?

Seems to be on everyones want list for 2.1, but it already there! Jut go to the text imput box, hit the menu key and there i an option for SPEAK. I use it all the time. Or does 2.1 have some other Speech to text ??

They may be referring to the microphone that's on the keyboard (virtual) where the comma currently is. I saw it that way on Shoals 2.0.2. I didn't like having the comma moved off the front of the virtual keyboard.

Nothing yet?

Well, didn't see any posts stating that someone/anyone got the OTA through the nite. Off to work I go. Have a great day everyone.
