I have a feeling im gonna be one of the people that says "i wish i didn't unroot"

Maybe we have different needs with out phones, but when i looked into rooting i did not see much that was useful to me. What is everybody rooting for, what are the perks?

I only rooted to overclock. So i was running a 2.0.1 950Mhz image and not BB or a Sholes ROM. I will have to say after reloading back to 100% stock, this phone has run like a dream,

Seems to be on everyones want list for 2.1, but it already there! Jut go to the text imput box, hit the menu key and there i an option for SPEAK. I use it all the time. Or does 2.1 have some other Speech to text ??

I click the shortcut for gmail. I get to an email, I choose to repond to the email. Within the text boxes I try long presses and menu key presses. No Voice to Text option. The long press on the text box let me switch input methods, so I switched from Swype to the original keyboard and still no Voice to Text option. I've got ColorNote, a sticky note type app. It's menu keys options are different than Gmails...so I guess it is up to each app to include it or not. Actualy I don't see it in the default web browser either.

The only place I have it is in Handcent text messaging. Am I missing something, somehow?

Your not missing anything. No one has speech-to-text with 2.0.1. Except voice search.

So if we root people decide to unroot and try 2.1, but then decide to re-root, couldn't 2.0.1 be flashed and then root as we did before?

I have not rooted but my understanding is this:

If you root and only root, the official OTA update is available to you. I've got a feeling there are not that many who have rooted and not applied (flashed) qa ROM.

If you root and apply a ROM the ROM itself can block (and I think they all do but I could be wrong) the official update.

If you take the update and do not like it you may not be able to immediately "go back" to a rooted state. The update itself may change the the root process and people will again need to figure out how to root. Once they do though, the ROMs have already been created so there won't be a delay between rooting and enhancements, as there was the first time when the first OTA opened the door to let the Droid be rooted.

Wow, you guys are acting like this is the greatest thing to ever happen. Go back to your lives (that is, if you have one) and the update will come soon enough.

This is just speculation on my part, but if we don't get live wallpapers, the new app launcher, and 5 screens with the card system...

...does anyone think it may be because GOOGLE has not optimized them to run in landscape mode? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Nexus One has the ability to force landscape mode on any of its homescreens like the Droid can when you open the keyboard.
