OFFICIAL: 2.1 to release this week on the Motorola Droid

I am going to assume it's in March like Cereal Killer (who wants us to be serious with that name).

So I've decided to create more folders for 3 panels and just wait. Unless someone can come up with a better solution other than rooting.

When it was announced we were pretty shocked. It was a wth moment : )

They were very adamant about it not coming out this month but did say there is a possibility, albeit a VERY small one, that it would get released this month. Thats why I made the first announcement.

Moto messed up and made a public statement saying as such.

I don't know too many huge corporations that would make a statement that quickly if at all.

Thats a stand up move right there.

People should cut them some slack.

Looking back at this thread it's amazing to see how people behaved over this whole thing. Regrettably, I have to say it was disappointing to see and read what went on.

To those that kept a cool level head I thank you. It didn't go unnoticed by me or any of the other DF team members.

Anyhow, here we all are still alive and kicking. Lets see how this adventure unfolds.

I feel you CK. I really do but, to say, "we messed up, it's coming", is like saying the polar caps are gonna melt. We already know that. I rarely post. I just read the info posted. I've been a member of the board since November. Bought my Droid on release day. IMHO, the "tight lipped" approach does more to damage public personna than them saying we ran into a problem and we're working it out. If there is a legal problem (I'm just saying that for the sake of argument) then say it's a legal thing. If it's a tech thing, then say it's a tech thing.

I'm a pretty even tempered guy but, even I have been annoyed by the sequence of events the last 48 hours or so. But, you know what? You're right man. When someone calls, my phone rings. When I slide the unlock bar, I can talk to them. I guess that's the bottom line. You guys do a great job "moddin" the board man. Thanks. Keep it up.

+1 first, you mods do a fantastic job with gathering information, keeping the masses cool, etc.....great work to you all....

second....This is a big P.R. gaff and they should be held accountable. leaking false information and answering it with "no comment" is not very wise. If they would come out and say the update will be coming within a month, or the next few days, they could avoid the "beating" their getting.

I also realize a company can't be completely transparent and "show" their costumers their having diffuculty with the OS...that would cause us to think their incompetent.

So, there is a fine line. I believe they need to give us a fluid timeline and put a damper on the frenzy that is starting...

That's not saying we're for sure not getting it.

Well we are eventually getting it, whether it's tomorrow or next month. Just tomorrow is looks less likely.

I just went from 2.1 back to a sholes, I don't think the update is as special as people make it out to be.. Now if it includes flash, I might have to smile a bit. If it includes the ability to Bluetooth voice dial, I'll start bouncing..

however... if Motorola WAS smart enough, and the point was to tease us with the "leaked information" and "no comment"
this is the craziest suspense ever...
it could be tonight at 12...

I mean... thinking about it, do you think a big company such as Motorola will allow such chaos and beatings and ruin their reputation without apologizing? No company wants to ruin their reputation... maybe this is planned... this suspense and leaving everyone "hanging"

Thanks for cosigning on my post bpad10. However, i have to disagree with you on one point. IMHO, NOT being somewhat transparent makes them look incompetent. It's more than obvious that something is wrong. There are some really smart people on this board. so, it wouldn't be like explaining would be talking down to a good portion of the people on the board. Even the ones of us that aren't "tech saavy" aren't UNintelligent. Just say what's going on and most of us would be satisfied with that. At least I would be.

Have you been on their FB page? It's appalling what people have been saying to them for a few weeks now.

There's a reason they are tight lipped. Because if they say anything that opens the door to a whole new level of disgusting behavior.

and on and on and on. Moto probably regrets even starting up that fan page. I find it disgusting to read what people say in there. Like they are owed something.

Nobody owes them anything but a reliable and stable device that works and last time I checked Moto/Google/Verizon have provided that to them.

Whens the last time you bought a first iteration smartphone and it worked 'perfectly' right out of the box? For me I can say NEVER until I picked up this device.

For that I'm very grateful.

Would I like some cool features in future updates? Sure who wouldn't. But I bought this device knowing full well what 2.0 brought and I expected it to work as advertised. That is what was owed to me and that is what I got. Turns out we are getting 2.1. I never knew that when I bought the device. Nobody mentioned anything about that but here it is.

You won't find me complaining about getting 2.1. It's more than I expected in the first place.
