Well, unlike most, I see this as good news.
I guess I'm a virgin to smartphones being that this is my 1st one but I've never gotten ANY updates on ANY other phone. Now I'm about to receive my 2nd update on the Droid. Life's back to normal for me, I mean after it was flipped upside down in an alternate universe yesterday when the Colts lost...
But I'm happy again :icon_ banana:

im with u my damn windows mobile omnia never got any updates so with this ill take whatever i get and not piss and moan about what i dont get. some people are gonna have to start carrying multiple phone just to be happy and even then we will still hear complaining

5 Home Screens and Live Wallpaper?

Does anyone have inside info as to whether or not this update will include the 5 home screens and live wallpaper? I don't mean rumors from websites, but actual inside info?

The flaming has started! It is against the 2.1 update, go read all the other 2.1 threads, if you have read all of them and have been active in the reading of those posts you will see the "glass is half empty" attitude in them all.

The only flaming going on is against 2.1, motorola, google and verizon, even the mods here get no love!

If you want 2.1 now, root your phone and dont look back, if you want to wait for the official update then do it! Makes no sense complaining about things NO ONE here REALLY knows about!!

This is the first phone that I have that has gotten OTA updates! All my other phones didnt get jack so I am pleased with this phone and will be pleased with any and all OFFICIAL updates I receive.

Rooting is cool and OC is cool till it cooks something or messes up and bricks the phone, then I suppose there will be complaints made to verizon what a POS phone the Droid is!

If you really have to have it, get an app to do the home screens.

I knew this was gonna happen. 2.1 I'll put money on it will be the last update the Droid gets. The N1 is their prize phone and the Droid is faded. This pretty evident by the lack of even all the 2.1 features.

First off, you're taking a rumor from Engadget as truth about 2.1? Really?

Second, while the N1 might be Google's prize phone, you're missing a big chunk on how this Android thing works.

Google updates/changes the OS, adds features, fixes bugs. Then they release it to the public, for free. At that point it is up to the MANUFACTURERS of Android smart phones to port this to their hardware. Google is the first step, it is up to MOTO to keep giving us updates. If Google stopped updating the SDK and OS, then it would screw over EVERY manuf. that uses the Android OS, not just Droid users.

I download the launcher.apk and i thought it was pretty cool for about 5mins then i unistalled. I guess its just a personal preference but i like the 2.0 sliding app drawer. The 2.1 gallery is amazing and i want that. The news/weather widget i thought was cheap looking, beautifulwidgets wins that race by a mile. 5 home screens, for me is overkill, i use 1 home screen currently. The new update will hopefully prevent my phone from making random calls and maybe a little battery and system tweaks. Thank you Moto/Google/Verizon, I love you.

Same here! Thank you Moto/Google/Verizon in advance!

Oh God, stop with all the doom and gloom already. Some of you will just never be satisfied.

There was no way the colts would win. I knew it. And this is my first too, and I just wqnna get flash.

Since I'm not rooted, have never been rooted, and have no intention of rooting.... I'm psyched about this. Whatever is or isn't included, great. It's all still an upgrade. For those of you planning on not getting the update because you have your phones the way you like them, I'll be sure to post with the results it gives me (and you can choose to be interested or dismiss them as you please).

P.S. I'm breaking the vow I made to myself by posting here. I swore I would not post in any 2.1 thread until someone had actually received the update.... but dang it all, I got sucked up in the commotion... :woot:

I would strongly suggest you find out what features there are before an angry mob of Droid users destroys either Motorola or Google.

I would....you may like it...or not : )

I think if you know so much about 2.1, i think you should tell us if were getting the version engadget talked about or the full 2.1 experience. =) No disrespect, it just seems by what you say in your posts, that you know more than most. Are you a beta tester or something? lol =)
hahahaha....

Well now that the cat is out of the bag I can tell you.

The deadline for the final build to be in was this Friday. So it was up in the air after Friday what would happen.

They could have released it on Monday or held it a couple more weeks if there was a problem which would have spilled into March.

My sources did not know how that would shake out only that it could be within a week or 3 depending on how solid the build was.

I don't know what features will be included right now. If I find out I'll post them.

Rumors tend to have a great deal of fact behind them when reliable sources. Go take a trip over to MacRumors.com they predict half of the stuff apple is gonna put out and that stuff is top secret.

You honestly believe Moto is gonna update the Droid till the end of time, even when they have 2 new Android phones coming out in the near future? I don't know man. I give it one year of little updates/bug fixes and that's it. But hell I could be wrong, you could be wrong. We are just guessing right now.

So do I need to remove my Nexus One launcher, clock, music player, weather widget, and gallery before I load the update (whenever that happens)?
