Wow.. I just put the overclocked kernel, the 800 or something, and my Qaudrant test went from 839 to 662. The download from the first page post.. is it an overclocked kernel as well? If so, what clock is it at? It must be the 1000 or higher for my Moto droid to get 830 to 860 with it.
Couple questions if you guys know...
First, these overclocking kernels, are they going to reduce the life of my droid much like O/c a motherboard *might*? I am ok with getting a new phone in a years time, I am sure there will be much better/more powerful phones by then. The Incredible and such are nice already, but not nearly enough for me to upgrade to (nor can I for I think what, every 18 months, or is it every year on Verizon when you're eligible?).
Second, when the official 2.2 comes out, and supposedly I can update to it even with this Froyo on it... will I go back down to a 300 or so on my Moto droid? I ask this because, supposedly Froyo 2.2 will give a 2x to 5x increase in performance. Since I am using an overclocked kernel AND 2.2, I am only seeing about 2.5x. I would have thought Froyo alone would give me that boost, and the OC kernel even more so. But seeing both in action, makes me think that with the official Froyo, I wont see a huge increase in performance. In fairness, when 2.2 was announced, the side by side demos they showed were far from a 2x increase. The stock nexus was doing like 23fps, and the Froyo did like 33 or something. A 2x increase would have put it up to 45+, and a 5x almost 100fps, so I don't know how they claim 2x to 5x increase. Being a java developer I do understand how the JIT works and I know it takes a bit of running before it really boosts things. I thought it funny in their demo that it wasn't nearly a 2x increase that they were claiming, so I am curious how they came up with these numbers.
