OFFICIAL: 2.2/Froyo Issues and Support Thread [NON-ROOT]

Not sure of which of the 20 Froyo threads I should have asked this but......

I have the leaked Rom with all the goodies updated, but when the real update comes in will it force the update over or does this Rom BLOCK the Update, and if not how can I ? I'd hate to loose root and everything.
Thanks

I imagine it should be just like 2.1 if your rooted. If you're not rooted then you should be able to update to the official version.

I don't want the update.

I am rooted.......so your saying I don't have to worry about the update?

Hey all,

So I followed the instructions. Couple questions, maybe update the main post to explain these if it makes sense to do so.

1. The USB driver.. is that necessary? I am unsure why this is needed? Perhaps update the thread to explain why a USB driver is needed, as on my Win7 box, or on my linux box, I just plug my phone in, and it finds everything just fine. My only guess is that it helps identify the phone as the A885 (or whatever it was) device? Is it required tho?

2. Also would be good to explain about the different kernels. I know many of us have read about some overclocked kernels. The download you provide.. is it an overclocked kernel? If not, maybe a little more info on how to grab a different kernel for those wanting to, and where that can be found? I wouldn't mind overclocking my phone to the 800Mhz kernel... I thought the moto droid cpu was originally an 800Mhz cpu and was restricted to 550Mhz... anyone recall what the actual stock cpu speed is?

3. I read through every post, and a lot of people seemed to have problems. I did not. It took less than 7 minutes to get the files, copy the file to the SDCARD, run the program, hit START and run. I DID delete the cache AND the data before doing the recovery process, just to be safe as several threads said they had to do that before it finally worked. But, all in all, it took about 7 minutes to complete the entire thing. It rebooted, and I have Froyo running.

4. While not part of the instructions to install it, it would be good to add a sentence on the program we can use to test the speed of our phone. I would like to see what speed mine is running at now with Froyo on it. I know there is the name of it somewhere in one of these 11+ pages, but putting it on the main post would be handy.

5. Lastly, a section on how to "go back" to 2.1 so that when the OTA comes out, we can then get the OTA version, would be great. Or.. will we still get the OTA notice even tho we're on this unofficial 2.2? I am curious if this is the same 2.2 that is on Nexus One, just modified for Moto, or did someone actually take the googld android source and build it for moto?

Thanks all. Pretty happy to have 2.2 going.

Even of your rooted and the OTACerts is not blocked, you will get the update notice.

Thanks just the answer I was looking for......changed the OTACerts file from .zip to .bak so I should be golden.

Thanks for jogging my memory!

EDIT: Everyone who has the leaked file the OTA was not blocked, so if they don't change the file themselves they will become a stock 2.2

Interesting.. with the update, google maps says it needs to update, but each time I try, it fails to install. I am guessing it's trying to update to the 2.2 maps and because this is not the official 2.2 yet, perhaps it's not working?

Go to applications > Manage > All > maps and unistall it..then reinstall it form the market.. That should fix you up

thanks everyone just got it to work, please update install instruction about the wipe date part, so they're not stuck at blue android screen

Can someone please help?! I really want froyo....but it restarts my phone if it sits idle too long. Does ANYONE have any ideas about this?!

Hi,

I am trying to get 2.2 on my droid. On the PC, when I have the RSD Lite program open, and my droid is connected, I cannot select the "start" botton (it stays gray). What should I do to get pass this first step?

Thanks.

Did a side by side Quadrant with my phone and my buddys stock 2.1...

I pulled an 864 his did a 350! His brain did a slow burn! I would say 2.2 AT LEAST doubles the speed.

I had never heard of Quadrant so I tried it on my newly Froyo'd Droid and it did an 873. I have no idea what a stock droid would do except for what the chart states but it appears to be flying by the results. Thanks for mentioning Quadrant.
