OFFICIAL: 2.2/Froyo Issues and Support Thread [NON-ROOT]

I tried that for maps. Uninstall greyed out...

I have the same... Maps is the only issue I have remaining. It does work and the GPS shows my position as well as all the other map functions working but Market shows it as "Free" rather than "Installed"

Okay, so I have read through every post just to see if this was covered before and unfortunately it hasn't. I'm actually surprised in the community for not breaking the news a little earlier. For those of you who have followed any of these guides to get froyo on you Droid and think you have it without root, you are mistaken, your phone is now rooted. The moment you flashed the 2.1 .sbf file with recovery you rooted your phone. For recovery to work it touches and writes to your /system and /data portion which are all read only and can only be changed with root permissions. Additionally, even if you don't have the ninja but still have a custom recovery you have root access via the add shell. This is why you are able to flash different kernels and customize your phones with non official updates like froyo. You would have to receive a digitally signed OTA and update it through the stock recovery image (not recovery, among, or clockwork custom recoveries.) Additionally, your custom recoveries by default block OTA updates (although with recovery at least you can allow it when the time comes). In all, root isn't a bad thing, its really awesome. I just think it fair to warn you guys of what you are doing, its not right to be led into this thread believing you were going to get all this great stuff and not be rooted.

Text messaging through GV was why I wanted an android phone. Work will not provide txt msg in their plan so it's the only way to "talk" with the kids.

@Miami,

Like others, my uninstall for Maps is grayed out.

Question tho.. according to a post a few up, the guy says we ARE rooted? Is this true? If so, I'd think I could delete maps.

How do you figure out if you are rooted? Is there some stuff you can do on the phone directly being root?

I also notice that at least in this update, the ability to turn on wifi hotspot is not available. Not a big deal, I am sure the OTA will be out in a few weeks or so.

Anyone having issues with videos not showing properly or very laggy? Videos on both my sd card and from like Youtube are not displaying properly, I get only audio and no video or it skips bad. Also there is no HQ option on the web version of youtube. Used to be that you could hit the menu and have a "watch in HQ" option...

Took me about 10 minutes to move from stock 2.1 to Froyo following the instructions at the top of the thread. Thanks all.

I logged my Droid into my Google account and turned on autosync. My gmail came over just fine. However, my apps have not reloaded. I thought that happened automatically. Is there something I need to do to get my apps back? I realize some apps will be missing my data. I also realize I could do it manually. My apps came back just fine when I had to wipe my phone a few months ago.

Help.

ok so i'm a little confused. i understand that rooting your droid voids the warranty but it was my understanding that updating the software before verizon released the software meant you had to root. but this thread is called 2.2 Froyo issues and support [ NON ROOT ] which leads me to believe i can use 2.2 and verizon be ok with it? ( ive rooted before and used a couple of ROMS but i had problems with the sensor on the screen of my droid so i unrooted and took it in for a swap )
