Okay, so I have read through every post just to see if this was covered before and unfortunately it hasn't. I'm actually surprised in the community for not breaking the news a little earlier. For those of you who have followed any of these guides to get froyo on you Droid and think you have it without root, you are mistaken, your phone is now rooted. The moment you flashed the 2.1 .sbf file with recovery you rooted your phone. For recovery to work it touches and writes to your /system and /data portion which are all read only and can only be changed with root permissions. Additionally, even if you don't have the ninja but still have a custom recovery you have root access via the add shell. This is why you are able to flash different kernels and customize your phones with non official updates like froyo. You would have to receive a digitally signed OTA and update it through the stock recovery image (not recovery, among, or clockwork custom recoveries.) Additionally, your custom recoveries by default block OTA updates (although with recovery at least you can allow it when the time comes). In all, root isn't a bad thing, its really awesome. I just think it fair to warn you guys of what you are doing, its not right to be led into this thread believing you were going to get all this great stuff and not be rooted.
