"Official" Beautiful Widgets Skinning Thread

Sounds simple enough, but I'm not sure how to do it. I see others talk about using photoshop to create skins and edit them but I don't have photoshop. Is there another way to do this? Thanks...

Go download paint.net, it is a free app and as close to Photoshop as you can get for free. You will be able to change edit and manipulate the skin files, sure not as powerful as Photoshop, but darn good for the price :-)

Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing

GIMP is also a good substitute for photoshop and is 100% free. Plus it works on Mac and Linux. Unfortunately, Paint.NET doesn't :(

its already on your droid. Check in your widgets (hold down on an empty part of your screen. And go to widgets.)

Hmm thought it was a different Picture Frame.
It looks different smaller...
Maybe its the theme I have?

THanks

AWESOME !!! Any chance we could get this same background with black numbers and gray bolts ? That would be great. TIA.

Would something like this work?

EXCELLENT - thanks so much......

Swapping layout.xml files?

Great app, great custom skins, just not thrilled with the sun/moon/weather on the right in the full-size home widget. I know this was driven by the HTC C&D letter, but I was wondering if anyone who'd kept the original version of BW has tried swapping some of the layout.xml files from the old version into the new to see if that old layout could be recaptured in the new, skinnable version of the widget?

Just a thought. Obviously only for those who had legally acquired the original version of this and kept an archived version after the change...

Actually - I prefer the current style - with the weather icon off to the side. I think it balances the widget more.

Thanks all, had fun making that. If anyone wants the source .psd files, pm me (but be warned, I'm very messy about naming/grouping layers.) The textures are all clipping masks and almost everything else is layer effects so things are pretty easy to switch around.

I would like to see something like this in superman colors.

I feel the same way. I liked the widget more with the weather displayed in the center.

I wondered if in future updates a screen brightness widget will be added like the other cool widgets? I use the wifi and silent one on my main home screen, but would love a screen brightness one as well.

I recently spoke the the Beautiful Widgets developer to express my interest in a flashlight toggle and a lock screen toggle, and he said he would take those into consideration and also told me that he was planning a brightness toggle as well. If you want to express your interest in getting these types of toggles, email him your requests at [email protected]. Remember that these devs want feedback and they'll never know what improvements to make to their apps if you don't make your desires known!
