VZW sales rep here, NY Metro area. Been following this thread closely because the main thing we get with our 4G phones is "Great, but the battery sucks" and for the most part I have to say it's true (ESPECIALLY with the HTC TB).
I've had the LG Revolution on my concession with ext battery for awhile, used the Charge for a few months, and though I don't have personal experience with the TB, most of my coworkers currently use it on their concession, and if you come to my store all you see behind the desk is Thunderbolts on chargers. It's really bad and why I thought I'd try the Revolution instead (but it's not much better and takes FOREVER to charge). The Charge is somewhat decent with the extended, but certainly not enough to push back against the perception that our 4G's are horrible on battery.
So I've been watching this thread to see if the Bionic really is different (as the annoying Moto rep insists it is). I've had the Bionic since 9/9 and decided to try out the standard battery at least a week or so before getting the extended. I live in White Plains NY area where 4G is pretty much consistent, but the store I work at is 40 mins upstate where there is no 4G yet.The standard battery fared okay, with moderate use, off the charger at 9am, 4G while I'm home and half of commute (3-5 hrs), 3G @ work and 1/2 of commute to/from work (9 hrs). I was really trying to mix up the usage to get "real typical usage", so on the way to work I'd not plug in the car charger, BT streamed music for 35-40 mins each way, then about 15-20 txts at work, browsed the web an hr during downtime, streamed about 45 mins of PTI on VCast on lunch, maybe 20-30 mins talking on phone.
With this usage, I was able to get home without having to charge. Get home around 7-7:30 and it's in the warning red stage. In comparison to the LG Rev (would be dead by mid-afternoon and seemed to drain almost as fast on 3G), the Charge (would prob have to charge by 4pm) and the TB (might not have made it to lunch), this is promising. But still, once you start really streaming stuff, using GPS, doing more talking and web browsing, maybe on a day off in White Plains or NYC area with constant 4G, it will get much shorter.
So I got the extended two days ago, drained & charged it fully, and like some have said here, the reading must be off until a few cycles. I started tryna kill it from the 30% it came out the box, running navigation and streaming a movie via zumocast on 4G. it went to 20% in about 5 mins, but then stayed at 20% for an hour and a half while I played Resistance 3 (great game btw). It then warned me at 15% and 15 mins later warned me at 10%, warned me again at 5% ten mins later, and finally died 15 mins later. Definitely not reading right yet.
Yesterday I did the same routine with the extended in the phone, but made sure to actually put it through a little more, added some Zumocast streaming at work over 3G, almost an hr. Started with a fully charged battery and when I was leaving work I was at 50%. This is extremely promising and is worlds better than my experience with the LG Rev and Charge; it actually rivals my old phone the X which I had the extended for.
I'll chime in more if this holds consistent, and I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I know it's a lengthy post here, but this interests me beyond my personal use. We get hit quota-wise on returns and so a lot of sales reps are avoiding the 4G's and just shoving customers toward the iPhone or 3G offerings, and this could be a step in the right direction to help against that. I worked in the largest store in NY Metro and prob 75% of the reps flatly refused to sell TB's, Charges or LG Revs for fear of returns due to the battery.
Oh another thing: I've seen that techs in all the carriers install task killers on customers' phones at point of sale. What they should be installing is JuiceDefender because it is a must have, please check it out if you can. There are tons of options to manage data and which apps can connect and when, and much more. My coworker put me on to it, he has a thunderbolt and he said with this app he can make it thru work without charging with moderate use. What's even more exciting is I've seen these results on the Bionic without this app (wanted to see the battery drain on close to stock as possible). If it gets any better it'll be awesome. Heck I'd be satisfied with these stats.
Awesome phone, btw
