OFFICIAL: Droid 2 Pre-Release thread

june release?? the droid will have been out for barely 3 quarters at that point. sounds rushed to me, but maybe they want to get one good hw/sw upgrade in before the big LTE push.
June/july for the Shadow. Droid 2 is in October. You've been around long enough to know these time frames can change but that is where everything is right now.

The incredible looks great. Even though i would like to upgrade to it i cant. I just need a FULLY working sense ui rom for the droid. Once that is out i will be able to wait till next year in march when i have my upgrade. It's exciting thinking about what'll be out by then. :O Lte 4g, 4.3" screen, dual core processor, and sense ui anybody? I can only dream hehe..

When should we see something official on the release date for the Shadow? Also, I'm not very tech smart so in plain english how will it be better than the incrdible? And what is motoblur and why don't people like it?

that sounds more like it for droid 2. being in the october time frame it's possible it may even end up a november release. that would put it at exactly a year since the first droid was released. right on time.

Chumley for starters take a look at the Youtube video of that OMAP 3630. That processor will run circles around anything thats out right now.

In regards to MotoBlur. Some people don't like to have a UI forced on them. For many reasons. They don't like the look etc etc

I'm not a Sense of MotoBlur fan neither. I won't buy a device with Sense on it : )

I want a TRUE Google Experience phone.

Amen to that.....And THAT is exactly what I told them at the Verizon marketing panel I sat in on. (looks at the camera and says "keep the Moto Droid pure....that's what people want and that's why it was so successful).

I doubt Motorola is going to mess with that (unless they lost their minds).

Here' some specs on the Shadow. It will be quite a device. I'm not a fan of Blur but that processor will sure be nice.

Now all we need is some Droid 2 specs.

Shadow's "leaked" specs.

~4.3 “FWVGA (854 x 480) screen

~TI OMAP 3630, which has the PowerVR SGX530 GPU

~8MP camera with Dual LED

~720p recording

~512MB RAM

~FM Radio

~GPS

~HDMI port

~USB port

~Android 2.1 running Moto Blur with 7 homescreens

~Very thin and light

~4 physical buttons on front (Back, Menu, Home, Search)

~Slated for a June release for Verizon if everything goes well

Wow, those specs might make even motoblur bearable lol. I'm not so sure I really want physical keyboard anymore. But ill have to wait and see, if they improve it enough it might just be enough to change my mind lol.

Sort of impressive but when it comes down to it what can it do that my Droid cannot do. The answer is pretty much nothing.

that's a good thing I believe. I'd like to see current Moto owners not left behind and end up fragmenting the user base.

Yeah the Droid 2 may have better specs but I think it will be good to see Moto Droid 1 users still be relevant and not left out of the game so to speak.

It will unify the user base not alienate them.

Ofcourse certain perks will come from using the latest offering but the old tech should remain relevent.

We'll see......

The tech has to change much more in order for any new Android device to become outdated.

We will need much faster processors, huge amounts of memory, and features we can't even think of yet.

Right now you have the flavor of the month - and it's not that different from the other months.

Have you noticed that Verizon is putting Droid ads all over TV shows - huge amounts. They all show our Droid. It's still the flagship.

now its time to regret getting the incredible haha

Thats just sad!!!. Incredible smokes. I am sure the Droid 2 will be great and probably better which is a good thing. Then someone else can improve on it. Fact is, for pure smoothness and ease of use (if you don't need a physicalKB), the Incredible can't be beat. And this is without rooting.
