As it stands now starting with the Moto Droid the netbook took its' first steps into obsolescence. I purchased an HP Mini 311 w/ the nVidia Ion chipset and 3 Gig RAM about 2 months prior to the Droid. Since I have owned the Droid the netbook sees VERY little usage although it still comes in handy now and then. Particularly when I need a physcial RJ-45 connection to a network to do some quick and dirty work. Otherwise the Droid has become my go to device for everything that the netbook used to. Now with 4.3" and dare I say even 5" smartphones (think Dell Streak) becoming more or less the future standard coupled with a dual core A-9, lithium sulfide batteries and 3G/4G/LTE/Wifi b/g/n they will more or less become the new mobile standard. Netbooks will still have their place but will not be as predominant.
Another reason the netbook is becoming less and less a factor is they are increasing in size and the cost is going up on them dramatically. 11" netbooks are now standard fare and there are some new models with 13" screens. Power, flexibility and portability was what the netbook phenomenon was all about and that is no longer the case. Once smartphones hit the sweet spot, 4.3" - 5", screens with the above mentioned SoC and battery tech. they will become the new mobile standard.
I'm curious about subsidized pricing on these phones, will they always be $200 with a NE2? or are we going to start seeing the NE2 prices go up to 300+?
I was telling my boss the other day that before my droid I was keeping an eye on netbooks and that once I got my droid I was really glad I never picked up a netbook. I mean, I have the friggin internet in my pocket wherever I go.
That's a good question about the prices. I mean look how they raised the early termination fee. They separated cellphones from smartphones. It used to be the same fees no matter what.
If the motorola shadow or droid 2 will have motoblur, i probably wont buy it because i just dont like motoblur how it is now. If it's completely revamped with new features and stuff, maybe.. Nothing comes close to sense ui though imo.

Im hoping that the Droid2 will have a front facing camera on it for video chatting. Im hoping somebody in here that has ties with motorola will mention this to them, it would be a good thing to put on the phone since the new iphone that is coming out is going to have it. Im also hoping that they will up the megapixels on the regular camera
