~OFFICIAL: FRG01B FroYo Issues/Solutions Thread~

I Miss the ".com" Key!!!!

Does anyone else miss the .com key after the 2.2 Froyo update? I now have to physically type in .com when in the browser.

They spoiled me with that feature in 2.1 and then took it away in 2.2!

If anyone knows a way to get it back, please let me know...

Hello, has anyone identified the cause or come up with the solution for the Froyo slowness on Moto Droid problem? I have seen several reports across the web but no solutions yet. It seems to occur the most when transitioning back to the home screen from an app. My home screen takes 4 seconds to paint the icons and then doesn't accept input for maybe another 3 seconds after that. I have seen this exact description several times when I do a google search and I haven't rooted so I doubt it is specific to my unit. I am sort of hoping one or two apps are behaving badly, and that it isn't Froyo itself....

This has been discussed from time to time and it really is not a widespread issue. The solution is to do a Factory Data Reset. That should fix it. If it doesn't then you need to visit Verizon, it's their update if it messed your Droid up they need to take care of it.

Thanks hookBill. Since a factory reset is an onerous process, I was hoping to avoid it especially if it had not fixed the problem for some people. If it is not a widespread problem, then it suggests that it is due to some app that is not doing well under Froyo. Maybe also the update that is rolling out now will fix it. If anyone figures out the source of this problem, please let me know.

I had severe lag after the initial force update of froyo (with the small file). I did a couple of things that fixed the majority of the lag. I still have home screen slowness though. It always takes a few seconds to draw he icons and a second or two more for widgets.

I cured the server lag with a few (redundant) steps:

1)installed the 79mb FRG01b update manually
2)did a factory reset w/ data wipe, reboot
3)cleared cache, reboot
4)reinstalled the same file again, cleared cache and factory wipe one more time, reboot

I just didn't want to have to do it again. It did help. Though none of those steps by themselves made any difference. i've not got the OTA version of FRG22D but the home screen is still lazy

Redraws are the bane of FroYo installs. There is no 100% working solution for anyone. All we can really do at the moment is experiment and hope.

Are you using a lot of widgets, by any chance?

Ever since installing 22d last night my e-mail set up through active sync is failing due to security errors. Anyone have any ideas? Should i delete the account and try again, roll back 22d? Any help appreciated.

I'm originally only had two on the main home screen, BatteryLeft and a Curvefish silent mode widget.

On another screen I have the stock power widget and Smooth Calander widget.

I have a number of folder shortcuts as well. Though I've had most of these widgets since before I had major lag. Maybe its a combo of all the widgets, and low onboard memory. I'm always right around the point where it starts to bug you (25+/-Mb). I'm generally using a less intensive live wallpaper also (the stock sky and grass one).

Redraws happen even for people with no widgets, but anything eating up active memory will make them happen more. To wit: widgets, live wallpapers, oversized wallpapers, etc. If the redraws are an issue you'll need to start cutting back on the excesses. :)

Delete the account and set it back up -- at the very least double-check the security settings and password. Without rooting you can't roll back unless you flash SBF files and not only will you erase your phone and have to set it back up, you'll STILL be force-updated to 22D. Also, try a different e-mail app if you continue to have issues.

I have already tried that and now it is force closing the email app every time i try to add an e-mail account.

I am really not in the mood to factory reset but it was what i needed to do after the last upgrade as well.

I had the same issue when I upgraded to FRG22D, as did others. Seach for a program called Improved Email in the market. Its basicaly the same as the stock email except, not broken. I tried it and it works. However, I decided I didn't like having my pattern lock disabled by the default Activesync policy, so i'm testing out Touchdown, which it working out well.

Very strange move by the super moderator if you ask me. Separate threads with titles pertaining specific issues helps people find solutions faster IMO. Just saying :).
