I've a question. I remember reading about Swype on the 2.2. I want to check that out, but how do I begin to use it?

You don't. It was a closed beta for the Droid and until it hits the Market you can't legally get a copy of it unless it goes into open beta or something.

Swype wants to sell to the major manufacturers/carriers rather than to end users, though, so it's not that likely it'll hit the Market.

its telling me i dont have the update file on my phone which i do i put it on my sd card tried up dating my phone it told me no i deleted the file put it back on and tried again and still no success

Recovery is looking for update.zip in root, and not finding it. Use Astro, in root, look for a compressed file called 'update'. Is it there?

Looks like the 18th wasn't the final day of updates for the droid 1.

Yep...it's already a .zip extension if compressed.

Besides, I'm scared I might brick my phone (although I had a custom ROM on my WM phone-but I was comfortable working with Windows both mobile and PC).

I'm not usually a hater, but seeing everyone else getting it.....I feel like the kid who is picked last on the school yard.

I waited for what seemed like forever and finally got fed up today. I have never done any type of mods to my phone but it turned out to be simple doing the update manually. I think I am going to try the large file though.
