****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

Is there an upside in updating Droid to the official Froyo 2.2 vs keeping FRG01B? To me it seems like a lateral move. Just curious. Thanks.

The way I understand it the 45 MB OTA and manual 45 MB file are the same process. That is they are an incremental update from 2.1. The 78 MB manual file is more of a full new install. The 78 MB file will install over 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2. The VZW stores were given something similar to rescue phones that had issues with the update. As noted above, I did the manual 78 MB update believing that the hang I had during the OTA update created a not so clean install. Time will tell.

This does seem to be a choice for people with problems with 2.2 or you can go to a VZW Corp store and have them reinstall 2.2 for you. I think that they were way to quick in giving out new phones for minor issues with the upgrade. But maybe that is just part of their buisness model. To me if I had a good running phone why would I take a chance on a recycled used one!

If you have a phone that got updated OTA or manually you have FRG01B. If you have anything else it's either a custom ROM or a leak. If you're running the FRG01B leak it's the same thing as what's being put in front of you except this is the official release and will break root/replace your non-stock recovery image with the stock one, and possibly update your bootloader making it harder to root in the future.

If you're going to update manually, use the link in the circus thread over in the news section; it's a better update method that has far fewer instances of bad installs.

I have received the OTA for Froyo - and I really like most of the changes. I have seen even days later now, that certain things - such as the task drawer - are slow to respond. I have ready all the 100+ pages here while waiting on the OTA.

Now that I have the update, I think just MAYBE a clean re-install is what would help the situation.

This is where it gets questionable for me - I see the link on the circus thread and I have downloaded the 76 MB file and THINK I want to update. My thoughts are a wipe of the system and then this update over the current 2.2.

A - will this work or will this update exit because I already am running FRG01B?
B - How can I be certain this is a SAFE file - could there be something in the file that is viral or spyware - I'm really hesitant since the file is not hosted on Google or Motorola or Verizon about the complete authenticity of the file.

I had not problems fooling around with some of my older phones, such as Blackberry and Krzr to go into the deep settings to get better performance, but I LOVE my Droid too much to screw it up!

Thanks for everyone's contributions here - this is my first post but, as stated, I have watched this thread since it started!

Welcome to the forum.

A) That file will "update" anything to FRG01B. Even the leaked FRG22 and every custom ROM it's been installed over.

B) You can't.

Oh wait, there's that pesky signature thing that's impossible to fake. I forgot about that. Darn memory! I swear, you hit 30 and everything goes to pot overnight.

Oh, and there's the fact that of the 5,000+ installs this file has seen not one person has complained about weird behavior indicative of an attack/comprimised system, but that could be because nobody's been able to report it after their phone came to life and ate their brains. Probably not, though. I've only seen that happen two or three times, and it wasn't an Android phone in any of those. Windows Mobile and one Symbian, though I did see someone mauled by their phone who swore up hill and down that it was a BlackBerry.

There was one more thing... Oh, right. That "rumored" update that was supposed to start hitting on the 18th? It hit today, and it's like 1.6MB and updates your phone to FRG22D. Maybe you should check into that before you try the one you're talking about, see what happens. If it fixes your problems you're set, right? If not, you can always try this and let Verizon plug whatever holes you're afraid might be there. :)

No harm, no foul, and no risk unless an update goes bad.

Like I said, welcome to the forum. Have fun, play nice, and learn all you can. :D

really? another update? what does this one offer? do you guys have it yet? I dont want to go through the wait again.

Well my phone is running better after I manually loaded the 76-78MB file over the OTA 45MB file that hung during the install. I pushed the power button after 30 minutes at the triangel ! screen the the phone reboot after the OTA outdate. But is was not running that smooth and the battery life was not good. I manually loaded the larger file and the phone seems a lot better. I would do this before the FRG22D push, as there is no way of knowing if that file will load after this next upgrade. Loading the larger file will assure that one is going into this next patch with a clean install onboard. FWTW I wish I had just done the manual upgrade to start with. It was very straight forward and easy to do. The rocker control on the keyboard is what you use to navigate on the update screen, and pushing the center is the enter button. The phone got back "on it's feet" very quickly after the manual 76MB file load over the existing OTA 2.2 load.

I have searched......so don't tell me to search.....I thought I was ignoring the sound on incoming email notifications and text notifications but it is not happening. School has started and the littlest member of the family has a lot of my focus throughout the day with school nurses and teachers.....diabetic type 1, not a bad kid.

I checked the settings everything seems in line. Most threads I am reading is that ugly master reset advice. I picked up astro and wordwrench full. Is this a froyo upgrade issue or is this something one of the two might have caused? Am I missing something I need to check? I rather not go hit the red reset button so I am seeking advice because this has to be simple or an issue so lend me your fine "I had that problem...check this....advice, please."

Check the news section. FRG22D is nothing special, but it's there.

When to Megaupload.com to download the Flash Player 10.1 it downloads unsuccessfully. Any other suggestions. I have a Motorola Droid.

Try here. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/70926-official-flash-market.html

If the link in that post doesn't work there are others.

That's an interesting issue. Are you sure notification volume is turned up all the way? If it is, do you have notifications sounds selected on these options? I'm assuming you've checked the official FroYo issues/bug thread and had no luck, so let's troubleshoot a bit.

Did you receive the OTA push or did you update manually? If you updated manually, did you use the smaller or the larger file to do so?

Under sound (in settings) Notifications are the same as ringtone volume. They are half way right now. Media is a little below that setting.
Alarm is all the way up.
Incoming call volume for notifications is checked.

I have a sound and vibrate for reminder notification (go to school) just sounded off and reminded me incase time gets away from me (I normally go to the school at lunch and give the little guy his lunch-time insulin shot) and that just went off and has like a champ for some time.

I declined the push during the initial mid-week roll-out, and accepted the push on a Saturday after a lot of the updates were added, bugs worked out, and have not had one issue but I have noticed this issue. So I will change the notification to something less attention grabbing and see if maybe a sound is corrupted, but that cannot be because the same sound is used for the reminder notification. I am game to try though.

For the record, the file that finished the rollout was identical to the one that started the push. It's only now that people are reporting getting the larger update file.

Hopefully it's just a corrupted file and you can fix it. :) If not, the larger update file might cure your ills without anything more radical having to happen.

People, please have a little sensitivity when you make your remarks. Try and stay PC, people are offended when you say words like "[inappropriate slur]." Keep in mind we have [a diverse community] coming in here.

Thank you.
