Oh, I got a replacement for my brick, so I don't have a reason to use it yet, but having this safety net that allows me to tinker around a bit makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

the full 2.3.20 SBF DOES work on the R2D2. I just tried it.

I've already flashed to Fission 2.0.9.4 and installed the Nextheme. Everything seems to be working properly. I'll get back after a day or so and let you know how its going.

That's actually what I was about to ask. How do we know which ROMs are not going to have the whole "bricked if you flash an earlier version" problem? For example, P3's Tranquility's versioning has no correlation with VZ's versioning, and I only knew to avoid my beloved Epic Unleashed because that one came with a strict warning that R2 would bootloop.

Is there some clear way to determine if a particular custom ROM will be seen as an "earlier version" by the bootloader and not work?

Edit: By the way, thanks so much for testing this, iwearhats. I'm very squeamish after my last attempt at tinkering around. It's a relief to have someone else test it first.

As for the ROM thing, I'll just be looking for one with a 2.3.20 build. I'm looking forward to the Unleashed 3.0. But if anything goes awry, I now have an SBF...

Well, I've tested AngDroid's Green ROM (Super Clean). It seems to be working just fine. Unfortunately, at the time of posting, the links to those ROM files all return a 404 error. But in any event, I can confirm that it works.

Edit: I should be clear. I did NOT flash the new SBF, so I'm only verifying that Green works on the R2.

Hello all just wanted to say hi and share my story.

Got my R2 about a month ago for my 30th bday from my wife. She knew nothing about my account info, she some how called vzwireless from my phone and reset the user pw so she could call a local store and got the thing drop shipped to my house. My wife is so anti-tech I would never suspect her of hacking anything. But she managed to hack my account settings and order me a new phone w out me ever knowing.

We both talk to the phone like it is a real droid from the movie... its funny to read others talk to their r2's also.

Oh yea, I have the random reboot problem too.

I'm now another proud owner of the R2D2 unit! Pretty cool phone. I even rooted it tonight already, using the Easy guide. A little advice, pay special attention to the text spacing, spaces are very important!!

By the way guys, I found an Ebay link in this thread for a cheap clear case. Came in the mail yesterday from Singapore. $2.98 shipped. So now I've got the clear on the back and R2 blue on the front. Looks tight.

Maybe I'm missing something - is there an app that translates text (or speech) to R2? If so, I must have missed it - where can I find it?

I love my R2D2 phone. Great conversation piece - nice to know I'm not the only geek out there. LOL!
