[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

Interesting... I thought thats what I was installing with that rom manager by the same person.. Or so it says...Maybe Im just confused..

Edit: Okay, paid 2 bucks and Im loading my rom now...Thanks... Not sure why i let that confuse me.. I thought the Clockwork was in the rom manager..

Nice work jjq. I'm linking your two posts in my guide. When someone confirms that this works, I'll integrate it into the guide. Do you mind if I mirror those files when I do?

Thanks - nope, don't mind one bit! I'm really curious to know if it will work or not. Also, I'm not sure if this file is needed as well (or if it is created when installed), but here is the odex file as well.

What folder do I drop the APK and ODEX file in before I install?

Your phone needs to be rooted first (in case you didn't know). Then drop both files in the /system/app folder. Let me know if this works for you!

Got my R2D2 Droid yesterday and am really enjoying it. I upgraded from the original Droid 1 and am amazed at the difference in speed. The Droid 2 is so much more responsive and quick to do everything.

I have only a hew issues so far with the R2D2 Droid.

- The old Droid Gallery app would show me all my picasa photos. The one in the Droid 2 does not. I had to download a seperate app to see my picasa photos. Not sure why they would have changed that.
- My K-9 email client seems to work fine, but no matter what settings I use I can't get the notification LED to blink. It plays the notification sound, but does not activate the LED. I haven't seen anything posted about this, so I may try uninstalling and reinstalling K-9 and see if that helps.
- WHY did they change around the buttons on the bottom of the screen. I keep hitting home instead of back, or settings instead of something. Does not seem like this layout is any better than the Droid 1, so I just wonder why they change things like that.

Things I love about my little Droid -
- the improved speed compared to my old faithful Droid 1
- the additional screens (not I just need to fill them up)
- the R2D2 styling of the case

R2D2 Help Please

Hello all I have an R2D2 Droid and I am currently rooted and I am looking to flash a ROM for more functionality and theming and such, is there a way to do this without having to SBF to 2.3? Thank you in advance.

-Kikitt

I didn't have to SBF to use Liberty 1.5. Just make sure after you install Bootstrap Recovery for the D2 to do a Backup and never delete it. Then do a Wipe Data/Cache and install the ROM.

Thank you!

Thank you so much, I was told that this would put my phone into a bootloop for sure, I will def try when I get home! Thank you again! :)

No worries, and there are a lot of success stories in that thread you created as well.

There isn't (as far as I know) a stock R2-D2 SBF, so if you need to SBF for any reason, you'll have to SBF to 2.3. So many people have reported having successes without SBF'ing though, so why not try it... the worst that could happen is that you'll brick your phone, in which case you should be able to SBF to 2.3 and try again! :)

I updated my SBF, loaded Fission 2.5.7, and restored most of the Star Wars stuff without much of a problem.
Only things that still do not work are the "best of R2D2 app" and the Photo widget with vader.
Benefits were clear right away... No more lag and VERY quick!
I recommend it even though we have a R2 unit

This is a question for those of you who are running stock R2-D2 (i.e. haven't flashed a custom ROM; rooted or not shouldn't matter).

Are you able to create a new instance of the "Vader widget"? From what I remember, when you try to add a new photo widget to a home screen, the photo gallery appears for you to choose a photo for the widget, and the original Vader picture is not available for selection (unless, of course, you happen to have that very same picture somewhere on your SD card).

If this is the case, then efforts to restore the "Vader widget" to a custom ROM are futile (short of hacking it or writing a new one, of course).
