[Official] R2-D2 [D2] Owners Thread

The GMail you had installed prior to fission may have been a new version. Try installing the version from the market and see what happens.

Figured it out. I posted this in fission's thread also. "Trook" suggested going into manage apps and select clear data. That did it. Thanks for your suggestion and thanks trook!

I'm buying an R2-D2 Droid tomorrow and hopefully getting it on Friday. I have a few questions:

Is the Droid 2 and R2-D2 the same phone?
Jailbreak/Mod/Root/Overclock???
[i completely don't know what to do or can do]
Any Tutorials on what I should do?
Should I use the Droid 2 forums if im going to do anything on the phone?

Yup im completely new to the Andriod phones. I've never modded or rooted or hacked anything. So any tips/suggestions would awesome.

Obviously im going to "check the phone out for yourself before you try rooting" or "get a feel of your phone" lol

please don't give me those answers xD

Droid 2 and R2Droid2 are very much the same phone, except the R2Droid2 has the Star Wars goodies. And get updates from Moto/Verizon at different times because of the UI differences.

Droid2 ROMs will work on the R2Droid2. I recommend Liberty 1.5. And i'll throw out a shameless plug for my blue theme (link below in my signature ). I'm running mine overclocked at 1.3ghz, but every phone is different and will handle overclocking differently.

I haven't touched the Droid2 forums, as this forum has provided more than I could possibly need.

A very good place to start. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-hacks/91760-droid-2-hacking-rom-install-class.html

Another good thread: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...asy-guide-rooting-backup-rom-flashing-d2.html

And read this also before you do anything: How to do a clean install and restore with Titanium Backup

AFTER you read these, post up your questions in the respective threads, remember to use the Search Feature, and welcome to Android and droidforums.net!

I currently have a Droid 1. I am getting the R2D2. I really love my D1 but Verizon basically offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. Just wandering how do the D2 owners feel about their phone? What are the good ROM's?

I am now a proud owner of a R2. I don't care what other people think about but I have now solidified my nerd status!

BTW Can anyone suggest a good clear cover to help protect it?

R2Droid has been ordered! Comes in Monday.
i have a few more questions, just to keep me prepared/updated:

- What exactly is Liberty 1.5?
- What are the advantages/disadvantages in using it?
- Should I even overclock?
- What exactly will it even do for me?
- What programs [if any] should I have on my computer? [iMac]
- The very first thing I should do is the Titanium Backup before anything or should i root first?
- What should be my next move after that?

Ive read that alot of people get rid of the pre-loaded things.
When i get my phone, i'll go through and find the ones i'll want to get rid of.
I'll keep reading the forums :greendroid:

Titanium backup needs root, so root first and then do a nandroid backup with koush's bootstrap recovery. You should keep reading until you get it straight. Congrats on the new astromech

SD card

so the sd card the phone came with is a micro SD hc 8GB.. when i tried rooting it said there was no SD card inserted. so i put in my old 4GB micro sd and it worked fine. why is that?

Happy owner of a R2D2. Got a mirror screen protector that goes well with the silver on the side of the screen. I've had it for a few weeks & recently rooted it & have it overclocked at 1.3. Really looking into adding a rom/theme. Just need to read up on it a little more.
