OTA Updates Possible Before The 11th?

I'm near Virginia Tech
and I don't use my phone much and I was able to update
it's by random also,
I received this phone about couple days ago...

this is my second droid because the first one (proximity sensor and camera) was acting funny

Lol keep going back to the store asking for new units, until they give you one that will update ;) LOL! :icon_ devil:
Now thats funny...:)

I'm hoping the Facebook update is slick, as I've said before, the only thing I miss about my Storm is the Facebook App. It was just all around better then the FB for the Droid, otherwise, I love it.

There's a facebook update with the OTA update? That would be nice.

On the list I saw I don't recall anything about Facebook being addressed.

According to Motorola's site there is something "facebook" related:

Google has released new software for Android 2.0.1. For consumers who own a DROID by Motorola, this means you will receive a free over-the-air download that will automatically be pushed to your phone.

This download will enhance the user experience, with modifications that include an improvement to the camera autofocus capability, voice reception, and visual voice mail response time. You can see a more complete list below.

The advanced technology of the DROID means you will only have to accept the download to your phone for continued use and enjoyment of this feature packed Android phone. The request will repeat periodically until installation is completed. The update is being rolled out in a phased approach to groups of DROID owners over the next few days, so not all owners will receive it at the same time. You will not be able to “pull” the update via the DROID interface.

NOTE: One you have received your notification, turning your DROID off and on will automatically launch the upgrade installation.

The Droid by Motorola software version AP:ESD56/BP:C_01.3E.01P update includes numerous improvements:

  • OS stability is improved.
  • Battery life is improved.
  • Camera auto focus functionality is improved, and time between shots is reduced.
  • Enhancements for three-way calling.
  • Audio for incoming calls is improved.
  • When receiving a call on call waiting, the speakerphone now remains on.
  • Bluetooth functionality is improved; background echo is eliminated.
  • Improved Bluetooth phone book transfer of contacts to in-vehicle Bluetooth solutions.
  • After closing a GPS application, the GPS icon will now automatically be removed from the notification panel.
  • Users can now receive SMS and MMS messages after an EMS message is received.
  • SMS and MMS may now be sent to seven-digit addresses.
  • Google® contact merging has been updated to accommodate seven-digit numbers.
  • Voice Mail notices now arrive instantaneously.
  • The corporate calendar widget user interface is updated.
  • New simplified touch and slide gesturing for unlocking the phone and answering calls.
  • Improved SMS/MMS messaging address functionality – it now recognizes parentheses in addresses.
  • Additional UI enhancements including changes to the Power Management widget.
  • There are also enhancements to other widgets, including the Facebook and picture widgets, which will require users to remove and reinstall the widget from the home screen.

Hope that helps.

How about this question....has anyone not gotten the pop up for the update but went into their about phone menu and then been able to see the update?

This may help some people who are feverishly checking that box lol

I believe the following:

If you get the update now, you will be depressed later, at least until the rumoured 2.1 release in January, at which time you may perk up again.

State at your Droid, try to make it grab the update notification by pure force of will. You will lose, the Droid cannot be pushed. :)

The lock screen; well, I thought the "wheel" implementation was nice, but can live witht he new one as well. If you own a Droid, you should be open to change!

The new widget look: Awesome, yet still functional, goes better with the overall look of the phone (cmon, white power widget??)

I'm staring at mine in the dock, waiting, but happy with it so far in its first week.

I'm also sure 2.1 will have its pluses and create a few minuses when released as well, but lets remember, that is not an update, but a revision of the OS, should have more pluses than minuses in its corner... you know, every odd release .... :)

Ohm yeah, hasnt happened yet, and it is my birthday, cmon droid, give me my present! :)

No update yet, but my battery comes out once a day to get this sucker unfrozen. I was hoping the update would fix this when ever my turn to download is here.

Im starting to think this is all a hoax!
I live in lil'o homestead Florida way down at the bottom hell im looking at an alligator as I type, iduno of anyone with an update around my area

Who on this thread will be the last to get the update lol..

December 11th, 11:59pm the notification shows up.

That would be some good stuff right there.
