Phone Shutting off randomly??

Are you sure you are actually shutting it off? The power button quick press turns off the screen, but dows not power off the phone. You hold the power button until a menu comes up from which you select Power Off?

yea, i made sure that i turned the phone all the way off. the phone would go through the process of powering off and then any where from 1 hour + it would randomly power itself back on. i returned the phone for a new one. the new one i got did it Once and has been working pretty well since (fingers crossed). only prob im having now is that i see Verizon may be coming out with a Newer, Better phone in a month or so. I really like the Bionic for what it is, but not sure if i should stay with it, or return it and hold out to see what's coming out...

this happened to me today as well. Also I have been getting the blacked out screen and I have to restart the phone ywice to get my home screen back. I'm about to call 611

Ok... this is getting irritating. 2 days after my 1 month return ended the darn phone acts up. Like everyone else it shuts off randomly like the battery has a loose connection or something. Then sometimes reboots itself. My OG Droid had it share of bugs. But this "king" of all droids has earned its nickname "reboot king". You need to reboot it to fix data. You need to reboot it to get it going. You need to reboot it to make sure its not rebooting itself...lol. I am honestly kinda fed up even though I bragged to everyone how awesome this phone was going to be and is. I take it all back. I shall wait for the next phone and see how it holds up.... then splurge the $500 or so dollars just to save myself from the headaches. I WANT to love the Bionic. But can't. :(

I'm having the same issue with my phone this morning. I have a fully charged extended battery and had to reboot my phone twice so far. My email is not synching as well as having no internet connection unless I remove the battery and put it back..

It seems this is happening on a regular basis to everyone with the Bionic. For such an expensive phone, you'd think they'd have cleared the bugs before putting it on the market??!! We're paying $30/mth for data. I think it should be free until they clean their act.

-----------------------------------

I've pulled my bionic out of my pocket a couple times and found it completely dead. I've tried holding down the power button but no response. There is plenty of battery left. The only solution I've found is taking off the back and pulling out the battery. I put the battery back in and then the phone will power on.

anyone else with this issue??

It's been locking up on me a couple of times a week, but it didn't start right away [started about 2 weeks from purchase, after I got all my apps installed]. Like every one else, it takes a battery pull to get the phone back. BTW, I had the same issue on my Droid2 [I upgraded to the Bionic to get away from the problem]. Note I did not have that issue on the Droid2 until AFTER the last system update.

are you using all of the same previous apps? If so, it is most likely an app conflict and you need to determine which app is the culprit.

When I first got my Bionic, it shut off a couple of times and I had to do a battery pull to get it to reboot. What solved the problem for me was going to Settings --> Battery & data manager --> Battery Mode and selecting "Performance mode". It was previously in "Nighttime saver" mode. I haven't had a shutdown since. Apparently the battery saver modes can be buggy.

Caveat: this advice doesn't seem to help everybody with this issue, but it may help some of you. Can't hurt to give it a try, right?

I just replaced my bionic at a vs store yesterday. Had it about a week when I was getting freezes, screen shutoff, and random reboots. The crapper is I backed up my phone with CW but MD5 checksum bad...so had to settle with a day one back up after 75% setup. So more work with Elixer to get back to where I was. I have seen lots of issues with this phone... I hope the OTA helps. Coming from a D1 I love this phone otherwise.

Mine has started with this as well. Reboots and frozen black screens. The endless reboot cycles seem to happen with mine around 3:30am. Its happened twice during the day, but almost always happens during the middle of the night. I actually propped up the phone next to my pillow with the speaker facing my head so it would wake me. I need my phone to work 24/7, so I want if to wake me if it starts rebooting. I've tried a lot of things, and none have helped.

-Rebooting before going to sleep
-Battery pull before going to sleep
-Fully charging the battery and leaving it off the charger all night
-Switching between the stock and extended battery
-Switching between all the different power saver settings.
-Deleting all appear
-Factory reset and not downloading or installing anything

Hopefully the upcoming update fixes this problem. If not then I'm using my fathers upgrade and ditching the Bionic.

Since I had removed a couple of apps, I only had one shut down in the last couple of weeks. It might have been some other third party apps causing the problem. Other than that, my phone has been running great. I'm waiting for the next OS upgrade.

What apps did you remove? Some others might want to try.

SystemPanel App and ScoreMobile. I can't confirm that these had anything to do with the shut down.

Im actually having the OPPOSITE problem with my new Bionic. Instead of shutting off randomly, my Bionic won't Stay Off! Every night i turn my phone off before bed. So far every morning when i wake up, the phone is powered on and the battery is drained. i tested it during the day, i turned the phone off and watched it. within an hour the phone powered itself on. This happens every time i turn the phone off. Anyone else have this issue and/or know if it can be fixed? thanks !

had this problem the last 2 days. definitely kind of weird, and frustrating.

Getting random shutdowns as well. I have uninstalled ALLOT of 3rd party apps but cannot find a culprit. One thing I did notice was that I had my phone for 3 weeks, using the standard battery, never had a shutdown. Got an extended life battery while in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, have have 5-6 shutdowns since. Very annoying. While I am generally happy with the Bionic, this with Apps saved to SD card disappearing, I am starting to wonder if I made a mistake. Keep hoping there is an OTA to fix some of the problems.
