Reboot or freeze up issues

Freeze/Reboot

Okay I was having these issues, and here is what I did to stop them from happening to me:

1) wiped data/factory reset
2) Reinstalled Liberty 1.5
3) added apps back 1 @ a time
a) Did not add back Wigisoid or JRummy's Droid overclock.

Get this, not a single freeze or random reboot. I have a hunch that for some of us it is simply the CPU not being able to handle a change in voltage.
I have not had a chance to Backup and add those two apps back yet, I will if further testing is needed though. In fact I'm game to trying whatever.

(Now for the WiFi issues .......)

Just got a reboot right now, running on gingerbread theme, undervolted. Been having this issue since 1.0.

Don't run the phone undervolted for a few days as that can cause reboots

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

the thing is this that when it reboots due to bad voltage, then it freezes up, and completely reboots

the issue with liberty is that it locks up and then reboots, it doesnt even go to the M boot logo, it goes straight to the boot animation

I've been getting 5+ "freeze-then-quick-reboots" per day on my phone. I've done a full wipe/SBF and I'm running only the bare minimum of apps at the moment. As mentioned above, the DX seems to have issues with reboots on most custom ROMs (due to the locked bootloader?), but I've never experienced anything like what I've seen on Liberty 1.5 (which is otherwise a terrific piece of work).

To be perfectly honest, I'm tempted to SBF back to stock, and just use Root access to remove bloat and apply many of the tweaks and tricks I've picked up from custom ROMs. A constantly unstable and rebooting phone is awfully close to useless, and it definitely HUGELY frustrating.

I flashed this 24 hours ago and have had no reboots or freezes. I have done the same things I did for weeks before. Texts, web, phone, Rhapsody... Before flashing this .zip I couldn't make it 5 or 6 hours without soft reboots or battery pulls.

Agreed. And what makes it even more frustrating, is that there is no consistency. The "fixes" that people suggest here and state work for them, do not work for me or for others, which means the problem is not caused by one, single underlying factor.

Love Liberty, but I need my phone to actually work when I take it out of my pocket.

My phone was randomly rebooting also. I finally figured out it was overclocking using ultra low voltage was the cause. Wanted to share my troubleshooting steps and hopefully somebody who's dealing with this issue out there will be able to benefit from it.

When I was having the reboot issue, my phone was so tricked out with themes, overclocking/underclocking, throttle mod, tether mod, sysctl changes, etc, that I had no idea what could be causing the reboots. I decided to start over from scratch but to only add one thing back at a time and did not install/change anything else until I was confident it wasn't rebooting anymore. This is important so I can determine if the last change/add-on I did was causing the issue or not.

So, here were my steps. The order I chosed were in the order of what was most important to me:

  1. Went back to stock MotoBlur. Wanted to know if my phone hardware was OK.
  2. Wiped data/cache and flashed Liberty 1.5 - did not use Titanium Backup or anything else but Google to restore my contacts and apps.
  3. Restored SMS, call logs, and data for important 3rd party apps using Titanium Backup.
  4. Installed wireless tether mod.
  5. Installed data throttling mod.
  6. Overclocked/undervolt my phone - (Blam! Reboots happened and I had to fiddle with settings until it was stable again)
  7. Install Blur camera
  8. Applied sysctl changes.
  9. Applied theme (Honeycomb for Liberty 1.5!!)

I ended not having to use the test fix included in this thread. My phone was rebooting 2-3 times a day so it took me about 3-4 days to get through this list. I admit that this was a big pain in the ass, but in the end, I got my tricked out phone running the ROM I wanted back working again.

Hope this helps somebody out there. Shame if I wrote this long post for nothing!

Well I did this exactly how you did it, but i installed the theme at the same time as the Rom itself and everything seems to be running awesome. Not using Droid overclock app or SetCPU... Hopefully it continues this way. I love Liberty but I tried a few others in the last couple days and just don't like them like Liberty. Maybe I'll be able to hold on to it now!

Just had another quick reboot. Happened in the middle of setting up a new WiFi connection.

To recap:

I did a full SBF before installing 1.5.

Rebooted.

Installed the Gingerbread Blue theme - rebooted - then Kejar's noclock mod.

Rebooted, installed core apps (Gmail, Tapatalk, etc.) directly from market.

Probably got at least one freeze/reboot while installing apps.

Installed the freeze/reboot "fix" in this thread.

Did not install any overclock app.

Continued to receive 5+ daily reboots (thought never, thankfully, during a phone call).

If my tone is a bit short or testy, I apologize. Kejar and Jrummy have done an otherwise exceptional job with this ROM and I will gladly take the next version for a spin (and I would even gladly test any future fixes in the meantime), but sine installing 1.5 I have honestly spent 30-40% of my time being incredibly frustrated with my phone.

I sincerely hope this ia fixable in Liberty and not a function of Moto's &%$*ing locked bootloader being a pain.

Was it rebooting when you were running on Liberty 1.5 base? I wouldn't add all the other stuff until I was sure this issue wasn't happening running just the base Liberty 1.5.

I do need a little help with the Sysctl Configuration. Not sure what the best settings are...

Addendum: the only thing I haven't tried is wiping my sd card before sbfing etc. Will try that tonight and report back later this weekend.

Fair enough. Wiped my SD Card and the only apps I've installed are Root Explorer, Tapatalk, & the Market updates to Gmail, Talkback, & the Liberty Toolbox.

So far, smooth as a freshly poured draft Belgian ale.

Will try to go an app at a time this weekend. My wife is going to kill me. "Why are you always on that stupid Droid?!" she'll say....

That's great! Just make sure it's running properly before adding each component back. That way you'll know what is causing the reboots. Speaking of freshly poured draft Belgian ale... time for a little R&R. Good luck!

Installed the patch over a week ago and everything is smooth as butter. Overclocked to 1.2 at low voltage.
