[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

What kind of theme are we looking at? Im dying for a stock gb theme.

It wont be stock GB, but will be a partially modded theme with a bit of my touches. Im not a themer, so it wont be super awesome, but I like it. Still working on it.... will post screenshots once I have some.

I've been reading through this thread and I have a question. On the install it directs you to dl the 890 sbf(same as the ota). If im already rooted, have cwm, and the bootstrapper(I believe its koush's) can I just flash the zip file like on froyo or do I need a different version than the update?

If you already have the .890 update, regardless if you used the SBF or got the ota from Verizon, you can use that. Then it's only a matter of using Pete's One Click Root, downloading the Bootstrapper from the market and then installing the Update from CWM.

I know this works since I took those exact same steps for my install.

Hope this helps.

I'm also having trouble installing the Visual Voicemail App after redownloading it from the market. It gives me the error after installing that my phone already has a built in Voicemail app and only gives the option to uninstall it. Any fixes for this?

OK, heads up for everyone here. I have v1.5 coming down the pipes. It wont be in the next hour, but its basically ready for release. This one will have separate downloads available for those that wish to reflash certain missing aspects of the stock ROM that they want that are not directly included in the main release. I didnt include EVERYTHING, but at least those that I heard people on here asking about finding. All of them are flashable through CWR, to make life easier.

Thank you very much sir. I sure wish I didn't leave my droid 3 on my girlfriends hood of her car that blew up into pieces as it hit the highway. I will have to try it out when my new one ships, as for now I am stuck with my old incredible. I just want to be able to overclock the Droid 3, I don't know why but I just do. I know someone will do it soon

So i installed Steel droid on my Droid 3. First let me just say that the directions are a bit vague from step 12 on, saying "press the first button" is far more confusing than stating what the button is actually named (I was in Rom Manager so i was particularly confused). That aside, I did manage to get steel droid successfully installed. But i have one very major problem: SMS no longer works. Any attempt to receive and send SMS fails (however my 3g data connection and phone calls work fine). Any ideas on how i can fix this? Can i even restore the stock firmware now? Furthermore the "Messaging" app is no longer present on my phone (the app that conviently combined facebook, email, text messaging, etc), is there a way to get this back?

Agreed on the instructions, I also began in ROM manager and felt really lost until I realized I needed to get 'droid 3 bootstrap recovery' (also just a little confusing, the developers name is unclear on the app in the market) -just a heads up for future reference.

Thanks again Chevy and others for all the hard work, I hate to criticize without praise.

My apologizes. Before i voiced my problem I forgot to thank the hard work of the developer. Much appreciated.

That being said, any ideas on how i can get my SMS working in steel droid again? or if there are no solutions how i can get back to a stock ROM?

UPDATE: I tried resetting factory defaults and wiping cash and then reflashing steel-droid. Same result, SMS still does not work (when i try to send a sms message or receive it fails, asking if i want to retry repeatidly, all other phone and data services work).

This is the 1st I've seen someone with an SMS problem. Have you tried uninstalling the app? Also you could extract the Deodex one from the clean up version on Rootzwiki and install it on your phone.

Have you tried a 3rd party App? IE: Handcent, KIK

Well, First off, how can i uninstall the app? I considered that but since it is just the "Text Messaging" app i assume it is built-in to android. I didnt see it in the market either. While i can find it under applications the only options there are to clear data (i cant even do a force stop on it, and no uninstall option). I did try Go SMS though, to see if it was somehow just the app, and i had the same problem.

I do not know how to go about extracting the deodex one from rootzwiki to install it manually. I only know how to install from *.apk files and market.

Of the people youve heard of who got steel droid working on a Droid 3 did any of them have the Verizon Droid 3, or did they all have unlocked Droid 3?

I have verizon D3 and sms works fine (stock and Handsent- which is what I use primarily)

My gmail wasn't working for me at first (seems to be a common problem) and I used 'ROM manager' and hit "Fix Permissions" and that fixed my gmail, Don't know if that work for for your SMS problem

Which version of the Droid 3 do you have? THIS is only for Verizon version i believe.

I would have thought a full factory reset would have done it, but i tried a "fix permissions" and that did not fix the problem. I also tried Handsent just in case, and same problem.

What do you mean by "version"? It is a breand new Verizon Droid 3 (not the unlocked kind). According to the "About phone" dialog it is "5.6.890.XT862.Verizon.en.US" under "System version". Model number is "Droid3", Android Version is "2.3.4", Baseband version is "N_03.18.29P", Kernel version is "2.6.35.7-g790a33c" which is followed by "w30471@il93lnxdroid42 #1", ERI version "5", PRL version "52522" and finally Build number "Steel Droid (D3) 1.0"

UPDATE: problem fixed, doesnt seem to be a ROM issue. Phone had to essentially be reprogramed/reactivated. My first attempt at reactivationa pparently jsut reactivated voice and not text. Thus the problem. A full reactivation (as if with a new phone) was needed. Dial *228 and use option 1 on version.
