[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

Problem solved. I'd like to recap the issues for others incase they have the same problem:

After installing steel droid at first no data, phone, or text messaging worked. I had to call verizon and they led me through a process which fixed all but the text messaging. First i had to dial *228 (the number you dial to activate the phone) and used option 2 (this is the option for previously activated phones, 1 is for new activations). This did not fix the problem (although did seem to change the roaming icon and made it go away). Next i had to dial ##7764726, then a GUI prompt on the phone asked for a password which was 000000 this then led me to an input screen where i can set various setting. I had to set the MIN and another value (i think it was DIN) to my 10 digit phone number. This process reactivated 3g data service and voice calls however left my text messaging unable to send.

Finally after a second round of calling tech support i arrived at the final solution. I had to call number *228 again and this time selected option 1. After this process text messaging worked again. I hope this is of some help to others.

OK, version 2.0 has been uploaded! HOWEVER, I have a few plans for this evening, so as soon as I am done with those plans, I will head back here, finish rewriting the OP, and give you all the next version of Steel Droid for your D3!

May the rumors and blatant speculation on features begin!

Way to go! Now that i have version 1 working cant wait to break it trying out version 2 :)

This is terrible... my phone is rockin' right now. But I have try new ROM's! Steel Droid was the simplist ROM I've ever used. No wiping of data, no factory reset.

I suppose that will change with 2.0, or will it?

Sent from my D3, rooted and looking for ROM's

as I am still new to all this crazy stuff that has to do with flashing and ROMs and such, I am really pleased with the performance with my Steel Droid as apposed to stock.

I am very excited to see Steel 2.0 will be up soon, to 'upgrade' to it will it take all the same steps? or it it just a matter of using Bootstrap to apply the changes?

another quick question, I think I understand what it means to 'Root' and as I understand using what bootstrap does -basically applying "root changes" to the system, but what was I doing to the system at first steps of applying Steel using RSDLite?

I would expect we'll need to start wiping our phones when we want to flash a new ROM. I'm not sure yet as this is the first ROM for the D3 and the process may be different. We'll have to wait until Chevy is done with dinner.

You were installing the base version that's supported by Verizon. Also, you were making sure, should anything go wrong, you can bring you phone back to a complete "stock" state.

There are much better write-ups on what is root, RSDLite and ROM's than what I've written here. You may want to search this forum for a more in depth explanation. You might not quite have your "arms around" the concept of root, completely.

Nope, no factory reset necessary, although, I personally recommend it with every install. Of course, you don't HAVE to, but I would suggest it. Don't forget to activate with *228 opt.1 if you don't have service after the install.

No public link yet. In my beta testers hands right now.

I noticed the battery status bug myself i think (been plugged in all day and at 30%).. I also encountered another bug. I had deleted a group from the app window and all of a sudden i could only access the "downloaded" and "Recent" apps groups, the "all Apps" was completely inaccesable, rebooting and clearing cache didnt fix it. I had to restore from a recent backup.

I fixed the battery % issue.......finally. I have a lot of credits to throw out, but I dont remember all of them. I will update the OP with as many as I can remember.

Im not sure about that bug. Never really do that kind of stuff. I dont think its one that I can fix.....yet. But I will keep it in mind for the next release. Thanks
