[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

The only thing I've changed is the low light video fps, set it to 30/30, and I don't know if you know but the system default is set to r/w.

Does this one have the visual voicemail application?

Its in the ADDON section at the top of the OP. Its a seperate download. I personally dont like/use Visual Voicemail, so I didnt include it in the main release, but its up there. :-D

I like the changes that you did. I alike to see the tweaks that you are doing to the things like the ram and kernels. That's what I want from a rom. Thank you for what you are doing. Looking forward to the next update.

The Droid 3 is my first smart phone. I've been using it with the stock firmware for close to a month now. Today I installed Steel Droid for the first time. Here are my impressions of 2.0 compared to the stock firmware.

  • - The Bionic boot animation is way cool.
  • - So is the charge animation, and I much prefer the increment of 1.
  • - For reference, I have about 180MB of memory free at boot (439MB total according to ES Task Manager). I suspect I'd have more if I did e.g. a factory reset before installing. Not sure what I had with the stock image.
  • - I opened what is for me a heavy load of apps - AIM, yaaic, ES File Explorer, ES Task Manager, Dolphin HD with 10 tabs, Facebook, and K-9 Mail - along with GO Launcher EX, Beautiful Widgets, Widgetsoid, and SiMi Folder on the home screen. Steel Droid managed to keep 55MB free without killing any apps. That's an amazing improvement over the stock firmware, which could keep 10-15MB free and which would often kill apps with extreme prejudice. Cheers!
  • - Everything seems more fluid with fewer noticeable pauses between heavy context switches.
  • - Animations in general seem much more snappy. In particular, GO Launcher EX's fancy app drawer seems to be more smooth and responsive. I assume you modded some system animation effects, because SiMi Folder animations are doing some cool things that didn't happen with the stock image.
  • - It may just be me, but it now seems to have trouble determining the proper screen brightness. After the initial boot, it was too dark until I held it up to my lamp. Then I put it under my desk for a minute (where it is dark) and it didn't seem to adjust the brightness at all. Not a big deal, but FYI.
  • - Totally subjective, but the new font is *very* hard to read. :) Trying to figure out how to change it manually. I'll be googling, but if anyone has any advice... =)
Fantastic job, and many thanks!

Great job on posting a custom new rom. Only thing I would say is put into the OP telling everyone if they are running version 1.0 how to install just to cause no confusion. A lot of people are afraid of bricking and if you just post "you can just flash this version over top of my 1.0 release. Its all good" in the OP that helps a lot. Plus a mention to make a nandroid as well. Other than that Thank You very much for everything you have done!

*Edit* also another note only go into a recovery when your battery is above 70% is also a great idea to mention. People always seem to run into problems when they flash a rom and their battery is low. Just looking out for everyone and if everyone knows what to do you can run into less problems. Less problems means more people enjoying their phones and less fear flashing a custom rom.

  • - blah blah blah

The charge animation seems to stop around 90% (I noticed at 95%). Not sure if that's intentional.

Artifacts are appearing on the notification bar. When the numbers on the clock change, the signal meters and charge meter shift positions. When they shift right (the clock shrinks, e.g. changing from 12:59 to 1:00), they leave artifacts, sort of like shadows, in their previous positions on the left. When they shift left (the clock grows, e.g. changing from 1:01 to 1:02), the artifacts seem to be cleaned up.

My friend, you work is amazing

Thank for all, for your work, for your passion in this theme.

I have one question for you, I have problems with my signal, I live in Honduras. What is the possibility to make of an update for change the baseband, for example the baseband 3gmovistar?

Or tell me how I can improve my signal Droid 3.

Again Thanks for all.

Very excited to 'upgrade' to V 2.0, just for a clear understanding, if I am currently running V 1.0 can I simply download the new version, and use "bootstrap for droid 3" app and hit "reboot in recovery" (perform bootstrap recovery first of course) and select the .zip file and reboot?
