[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

Never had this issue. Are you running a different launcher or anything by any chance? Is there any FC's or it just changes after a reboot or randomly?

Butt dialed from my hamburger phone

Nope,, just running 4.5 as is. There's no fc's or any other errors. It changes after a reboot randomly (when I reboot, sometimes it changes, sometimes not)

As far as the phone reporting full charge, the one guy was right, it's a symptom of the moto 10% deal.
I've used battery widget pro to watch it closely since I've bought a 3500mah battery and was comparing it's charge and discharge rates to the stock 1500mah.
What is happening seems to be a rounding up at 95%.
Ie; the phone displays the charging animation until 95% then stops, even though the battery continues to charge to 100%. It's purely a cosmetic issue.

GSM Radio ROM options?

Thanks for the great ROM. I upgraded from manufacturer's ROM and battery life and response is much improved on my Droid 3.
The only issue I found is that, even after generic unlock/root, GSM, D3 still cannot be used in USA freely, with arbitrary GSM SIM (still locked to Verizon).
Is there any tested suggestions/links to upgrade D3 Radio ROM to remove that restriction (I was able to flash one foreign Radio ROM, separately, for my other device).
In particular, I found some Chinese Radio ROMs for D3 (Verizon) but couldn't find any info if that (or which one) would work with Steel Droid?
Thanks heaps

hi all just wanted to say that I just flashed to SD4.5 flawlessly, I ranted about a month ago that I tried installing and SD4.5 blew chunks all over my droid3, but I was in a rush when I did it the first time and probably skipped a step -forgot to clear cach or some **** like that. This time I took my time, flashed 4.5 and restored apps/data using titanium and the process was smooth as butter -everything came back exactly the same as it was before the ROM change. Thanks for the hard work Chevy and all the other developers that make Steel Droid the best ROM for D3 out there.

I do have a question though, the impression that I get is that SD4.5 does not come with the Stock home launcher, (com.motorola.blur.home). and as i stated above i did a straight data restore and therefore the stock launcher is back, and as I use ADW as my primary launcher, how do I get rid of stock launcher again?

If your already running ADW, you can use Root Explorer or some other file manager, and delete "system/app/BlurHome2.apk". Reboot, and done! :-)

I also want to add here, that I won't be developing 5.0 for the Droid 3 for quite some time. I'm building a seriously overhauled build (10.0 for the Droid 1) along with supporting several other phones, in the same release. There will be a themed and unthemed version for each supported phone.

Currently looking at 20 different builds (2 builds per phone, 10 supported phones)

I'm going to be busy as ever, with little time for sleep. Lol

Quick question Chevy I know I asked it before but just wanted to double check. You say wipe "Data","Cache" "Format System" ect.. should we also use the "format Cache" and "format Data" options from the Mounts and Storage menu options in Safestrap?

Formatting and wiping generally do the same thing. But yeah its usually best to do a full wipe (system, data & cache) , just so you dont have any conflicting data that could possibly make your ROM act crazy.

Looks like we're starting to lose support for the D3. No updated roms for quite some time now, besides Mav and Hashcode (and now even longer) =/

Makes me want to get another D1 just so I can play and be updated, but I know I would hate going back to something so inferior, just wish we had that same support and dedication the D1 still has.

Chevy, if the D3 bootloader were unlocked would you still be as dedicated to the D1? I know that makes a world of difference, just curious.

Yes. Unfortunately, the Droid 3 didn't have as big an impression on the community as once predicted. Don't get me wrong, its a great phone, but it still has its limits, and even if the bootloader were unlocked, I don't see support jumping through the roof. It lacks in areas like camera speed, battery life, and its horrible PenTile Matrix screen. I was forced to resurrect my D1, but am since glad I did. I miss the stability, ruggedness, and overall quality of the D1. Plus, mine has blue LEDs, and a sound reactive flashing LED in the back speaker! Uber bonus!

Cool thx wanted to be sure just in case I can be a little OCD about this stuff lol.

Sucks that you won't be doing anymore work with the droid 3. This is my first smart phone and Steel 3.0 was my first rom I put on it and from the start very impressed especially coming from stock bloated rom really haven't even been even been tempted to try a different rom after going to Steel.

Hopefully when you get your droid 3 back that you will have a change of heart and come back to the darkside.

Have fun with your new projects and thanks for a awesome rom and the support that came with it Cheers!

It's really unfortunate that phone manufacturers have basically abandonded physical keyboards on phones. The reason I got a Droid 3 is because I basically had no other option. I wanted a phone with more RAM, 4G, and less bloatware, but I had no choice at the time. Even now, the only alternative is the Droid 4, which has more RAM, 4G, but still has bloatware, and there are other phones about to be released with better specs. However, having a keyboard is such a key feature, it allows me to type 10x faster than using an on-screen keyboard, even Swype is nowhere near good enough to keep up. It pisses me off that the manufacturers have all but abandoned the large group of people who still insist on having a physical keyboard on their phones.

I'm not completely done, really. I won't be doing as much major work on it. I might update 4.5 to 4.6, and add in some updated apps, tweak a few thingsm, and call it at that really. Not much more we can do with it right now. And no, I won't be using the 902/905 files unless I get a decent amout of time to test my phone, without actually applying the update completely (no downgrade method yet)
