[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.0 Gingerbread - 1-11-2013

Agreed. The "MavRom" has a great step-by-step on how to install and run Safestrap, that and reading his forum (safestrap dev?) Is probably the est way to go, its basically creating a partition to have duel boot systems, one is safe and one is non-safe, a much more stable way for system tinkering

Thank you!

Thank you Krazyace for your prompt response. I have done exactly what you said and am installing SD right now... I am guessing here but am not going to toggle safe mode off again? I am about to reboot... I think what was causing all my issues was that damn delvik cache... never touched it before now.

Attempting my first boot... Also glad I am finally using Safestrap, used bootstrapper before and safestrap is an amazing upgrade!

Everything is looking great so far, I will keep posted.

Your very welcome! Do not disable safe mode unless u want to go back to the stock rom. Hope everything works out. Enjoy :)

I followed the following steps to Flash:

Code:
1) Booted to AP Fastboot
2) Flashed SBF using RSDLite
3) Did factory reset using settings menu
4) Rooted using Pete's Tool
5) Installed Safestrap and booted to recovery.
6) Enabled SafeBoot (it backed up my system)
7) Cleared: Factory Reset, clear cache, clear Delvik catche,.
8) Installed Steel Droid from Internal SD
9) Rebooted. Used it for a little...
10) Flashed Addons (Swype, DLNA, Updaters, Editors) (Thank you Chevy!)
11) Allowed to fully charge while running and then cleared battery stats, currently discharging.

I have still crashed twice since this, no idea why; one time I was logging on facebook.com through the browser, the second time I was listening to Aarmin Van Burren using Google Music with the screen off through headphones.
(as of 2331CST now 3 times, again listening to music | 4th time 2358CST no music, headphone jack plugged in. Google music stopped at the end of playlist for about a min, then phone crashed)

What does 'Fix Permissions' accomplish? I know it changes the chmod of the directories but what problems would it help? Would it be beneficial to do in my situation? Would it hurt anything?

Maybe the SBF I downloaded was bad? It boots correctly and now it is way more stable than before (probably because I am on Steel Droid :) and not the original ROM lol) Should I re-download and re-flash? I am just looking for anything to get rid of the slight instability I have.

I do not mean to have you write me a journal but I am getting very frustrated , trying to keep my cool :icon_ lala: Any other information needed I can supply.

Thank you,

Colton

Thanks, everything works fine now, the contacts were crashing. But after installing both the dlna and updaters add on works like a champ.

So I went into safestrap, disabled safeboot (go back to stock) and cleared cache, did factory data reset, cleared delvik catche and battery stats.
I then SBF'd using the referred 890 zip

I let the phone do it's thing and it wont even startup, stuck into a bootloop. Am I doing something wrong? I believe this has to be a software issue as this happened to my last D3 from VZW.... Leading me to believe it is something I have done...

Pull battery and re insert it while phone is off slide out keyboard hold down the x key and power key untill you see the android man then press both volume keys at the same time this will take you to default recovery then do a factory data reset then reboot that should solve boot loop

Now I do feel noob... Last time I went to x+pwr menu, I never hit volume buttons to do the reset. If I would have just followed your entire post without my own know-it-all perspective.

Although, first attempt was not successful, still looping, should I clear cache also?

Thanks to krazyace38, My random reboot issues have stopped!

To all who may have had this issue, I fixed this using the following steps:
Code:
 1) Flash with SBF linked to on the first post (for a how to go to the first post, section titled "FLASH 5.6.890 SBF")
 2) Let the phone reboot one time and show the unpacking icon, let it unpack...
 3) On the next reboot do not let the phone startup at all, once you get the dual-core screen pull the battery.
 4) Once the phone is off, press and hold the x button and the power button, (I held them until a droid+Package icon showed up)
 5) Press both the volume + and - at the same time
 6) Scroll down to the 'Factory Data Reset' and select it (up=up/down=down/power=select)
 7) Reboot the phone
 8) If this fails, repeat, if that fails either repeat or call VZW lol (hardware issue if this fails?)
I was told by krazyace38 that this may take more than one attempt.

I am now reboot free after 3 phones!

THANK YOU KRAZYACE38!

just flashed...like it so far except the contacts from my exchange account are not downloading, and I cannot add my facebook account. how do I fix this?

Haha yes he has another thread for his ICS based v5 Steel Droid. :)

Butt-Dialed from my Hamburger Phone

I know some people just bookmark on thread, and only check THAT one. I DID make a separate thread for my ICS v5.x releases. ALSO, check in the Droid 1 ROM section, under my section for the FULL OFFICIAL releases for all phones.
