[ROM] ApeX 1.2 Series for Droid X - Functionality and Performance (12/7/10)

I'm loving the new transitions and other tidbits in this Rom, very nice. I've tried Dark Slide 2 and 3, and came from Rubix 1.8.6 to this one.

The one thing I see missing is Corp. email support. Not the "Sync" version, there's normally a Corp. email option in My Accounts, that looks like a white box. I use my X for my work email also so I need this. I didn't see anything in the extra blur APKs either, but granted it might just be named something different.

Hey Bob, can you try using the AOSP email app? It has an 'exchange' mode that may work with your work email.

So in the terminal emulator, type:

su
email -aosp

and then launch the email app to set up the account (don't do it from My Accounts).

Let me know if that's helpful or not

You can go back to BlurHome by removing ADW with:

su
launcher -rm

Then, press home, it'll bring you to backup assistant. Skip that, and press home again and you should be at BlurHome

You can restore ADW at any time using:

su
launcher -rs

As for the widgets I removed, they're all in the removedapps.zip in the first post. Unzip the ones you want, place them on your sdcard (not in any folders) and in terminal emulator:

su
install Widgetname.apk (repeat this step for each widget)

My setup's a little weird when it comes to Corporate Email. If I use the Blur version, I get corporate sync and, IMHO, the better email rendering engine. BUT, it doesn't seem to sync corporate contacts.

So, I enable both AOSP and Blur versions of email (rename Email.bak to Email.apk in /system/app) and then set up an Exchange account in AOSP email but only sync contacts (so, turn off Calendar sync and email notifications)

This seems a little long-winded, but it works for me.

If I followed all the steps to install Rumm Rx v1.0 (including flashing the 2.2.1 update that was in his thread), is it safe to flash straight to Apex 1.2 to try it out?

I tried doing that and it says Failed no such file or directory for MMS.apk However i am the cause of this sadly i bought Jrummys Root Tools app and went to scroll through the section of "deleting system apps" well i went to slide the screen down and just clicked on remove MMS.apk needless to say it removed it is there anyway of getting it back? i need to be able to send and receive pictures

Oh! No wonder Handcent isn't sending MMS, it needs the default app there to work! You just need to disable notifications in the default app so you don't get double.

Easily fixed though. Go back to the .zip file you downloaded to install the ROM, and open it on your computer w/ winzip or similar app. Just navigate to /system/app and find Mms.apk. You can just drag it out of the archive to unzip it.

Then, place that Mms.apk on your sdcard (not in any folders) and in terminal:

su
install Mms.apk

And you should be set!

Yeah, you're good with that. All the 1.2 apps are compatible with 2.3.15 minus the dialer and contacts.

Hey, those of you who are having MMS issues with Handcent, what is the default SMS app you're using, AOSP?

Can you try using the messaging script to switch it to the Blur one to see if it makes a difference?

In terminal emulator:

messaging -mot

alright i need some help fabulous. so i did what you said to get mms.apk back.. it worked i can now send mms messages... However when i recieve a text msg now i get two of the same exact msg.. its not just an accident.. its every single msg from every single person.. what can i do ? when i click messages it says i have 3 messaging things installed.

I honestly feel like this is the best rom out there for the DX right now and nobody ever sees it because they never check the rom section itself
